The upcoming anime adaptation of Kuzushiro’s slice-of-life comedy manga, “A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace” (Egao no Taenai Shokuba Desu.), has announced three new additions to its voice cast. The new cast members, Yu Kobayashi, Eriko Matsui, and Miharu Hanai, will lend their voices to characters appearing in the series, which is set to premiere in October 2025.
Expanding the Workplace Ensemble
The latest reveal introduces additional talent to the already announced main cast, bringing to life more of the eccentric personalities within the manga artist’s world. These new roles will further flesh out the supportive, and sometimes chaotic, environment surrounding protagonist Nana Futami as she navigates the challenges of being a rookie shojo mangaka.
Meet the New Voices
- Yu Kobayashi as Arisa Nashida: Kobayashi, known for her role as Sasha Braus in Attack on Titan, will voice Arisa Nashida. Arisa is described as a manga artist who previously serialized romantic comedies in boys’ magazines and was Nana Futami’s senior when Nana worked as her assistant.
- Eriko Matsui as Toko Kakunodate: Matsui, who voiced Malida in Good Bye, Dragon Life, will portray Toko Kakunodate. Toko is a professional shogi player who provides supervision for Futami’s shogi depictions in her manga.
- Miharu Hanai as Nekonote: Hanai, recognized for her role as Meroron/Cure Kiss in You and Idol Precure♪, joins the cast as Nekonote. Nekonote is depicted as Futami’s earnest assistant.

A Glimpse into the Story
“A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace” centers on Nana Futami, a novice shojo manga artist striving to publish her dream shogi manga, “Subaru e.” Despite the support of her cool editor and reliable assistant, Futami often finds herself battling stomachaches, looming deadlines, and creative blocks. The manga, and subsequently the anime, follows her struggles and wild delusions as she navigates the demanding yet humorous life of a manga artist. The original manga by Kuzushiro began as a one-shot in Kodansha’s Kiss josei manga magazine in February 2019 before its serialization started on Kodansha’s Comic Days manga website in May 2019.
