Amazon Prime Video has announced that the animated feature film Nintama Rantarō: Invincible Master of the Dokutake Ninja will be available for streaming globally starting Wednesday, August 13. The movie is set to launch in over 180 countries and territories worldwide, bringing the popular ninja-in-training adventures to a broader international audience.
A New Chapter for the Nintama Rantarō Franchise
The film, which originally premiered in Japan on December 20, 2024, is based on a 2013 spin-off novel written by Kazuhisa Sakaguchi. It expands upon the beloved Nintama Rantarō universe, a comedic anime series that has aired on NHK in Japan since April 1993, making it one of the longest-running anime on the network. The original manga, Rakudai Ninja Rantaro by Sōbe Amako, ran for 33 years from April 1986 to October 2019.
Plot Overview: Doi-sensei’s Disappearance and a New Threat
Nintama Rantarō: Invincible Master of the Dokutake Ninja delves into a thrilling new storyline. The plot centers around the disappearance of Doi-sensei, a teacher at the Ninjutsu Academy, after he accepts a duel with Moroizumi Sonnamon, a ninja from the rival Tasogaredoki clan.
As Yamada-sensei and the academy’s sixth-grade students embark on a search for their missing teacher, the situation takes an unexpected turn. Zado Konnamon, the leader of the Tasogaredoki ninja squad, along with Sonnamon, surprisingly takes over Doi-sensei’s class. Meanwhile, Rantaro’s friend Kirimaru uncovers critical information regarding Doi-sensei’s predicament. Adding to the escalating tension, Amagi, the cold-hearted strategist of the Dokutake Ninja Squad—who bears a striking resemblance to Doi-sensei—emerges to confront the students. The film promises an action-packed, emotional journey where the “nintama” (a playful portmanteau of “ninja” and “tamago,” meaning “egg” for the young ninja trainees) will have their bonds tested against formidable adversaries.
