Details on “Okōcha of the Living Dead”
For this new venture, Kentarō Okamoto is credited with writing the story, while Katami Shoulder is handling the art. The manga centers on an unusual premise: an airheaded rich girl and her reliable butler, Kamishiro, navigate a world where a zombie virus exists, but society has not collapsed. Instead, people continue to live relatively normal lives despite the presence of the undead.
Kentarō Okamoto’s Previous Works and Success
Okamoto gained significant recognition for his work on Are You Lost? (Sōnan desu ka?), which he co-created with Riri Sagara. That series, a survival manga, followed four high school girls stranded on a remote island after a plane crash. It was serialized in Kodansha’s Young Magazine from January 2017 to March 2022, accumulating 10 compiled book volumes. Kodansha USA Publishing released the manga digitally in English.
The popularity of Are You Lost? led to a television anime adaptation that premiered in July 2019, with Crunchyroll streaming the series as it aired. The manga explored various survival techniques, including how to find food and build traps.
Following Are You Lost?, Okamoto and Sagara collaborated on another manga titled Sonna Hiroki mo Isekai e, which began as a one-shot in May 2022 and later received a full serialization in August 2022. This series concluded in August 2023 with three published volumes.
