Fans of the popular Black Clover anime can rejoice as a new season has been officially announced, confirming the continuation of Asta’s adventures. The announcement was made during Crunchyroll’s industry panel at Anime Expo 2025, with Crunchyroll set to exclusively stream the new series upon its premiere.
This upcoming installment, often referred to as a “sequel” or “Season 2” in some reports, will pick up directly where the previous anime season, which concluded in March 2021 with its 170th episode, left off. Studio Pierrot, the animation studio behind the original series, will return to animate the new season.
Anticipated Release and Production Details
While no official release date has been firmly set, industry speculation suggests the new Black Clover anime could air in late 2026 or early 2027. This projected timeline accounts for the typical production window required for a high-quality seasonal anime, especially given Studio Pierrot’s involvement with other major projects. The hiatus, which lasted approximately four years, was a strategic decision to allow the manga to progress further and avoid the inclusion of filler episodes in the anime, a practice often disliked by fans.
Creator’s Enthusiasm and Manga’s Return
Yūki Tabata, the original creator of the Black Clover manga, expressed his excitement for the new anime season. In a message shared at the Anime Expo panel, Tabata thanked fans for their support as Black Clover celebrates its 10th anniversary, stating his desire for fans worldwide to enjoy the “powered-up anime” from an “awesome anime production staff.”
In addition to the anime’s return, the Black Clover manga is also set to resume with three new chapters in August 2025. The manga had previously been on an extended break due to Tabata’s health.
Visuals and Future Promotional Content
Alongside the announcement of the new season, a new teaser visual and trailer were released. Fans can also anticipate a special promotional video in the near future, which is expected to showcase refreshed character designs, including Asta in his Devil Union form, and provide further behind-the-scenes updates on the production. The original Black Clover anime adaptation ran from October 2017 to March 2021, and a film titled Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King was released in March 2023.
