The third anime film in the Butt Detective franchise, Butt Detective the Movie: Star and Moon, has released its final trailer, offering a sneak peek into the upcoming adventure. Toei began streaming the 145-second trailer on Friday, heightening anticipation for the film’s release in Japan on March 20.
Butt Detective Embarks on a New Case
The film’s story kicks off when Koala seeks Butt Detective‘s help to locate a missing relative who vanished during an idol contest. This leads the detective to Stardust Island, the venue for the contest and the base of the international criminal organization, Phantom Thief Academy, headed by Phantom Thief G.
Unveiling the Dark Age Plan
On Stardust Island, Phantom Thief Academy is set to execute its secret scheme, known as the Dark Age Plan. To infiltrate the island, Butt Detective goes undercover as an idol, teaming up with Phantom Thief U, who aims to reclaim the Moonlight Stone from Phantom Thief G. The movie will also explore Brown’s backstory.

Hiroki Shibata, the series director, is at the helm of the film at Toei Animation. Shoji Yonemura, a frequent writer for the series, is penning the script, while Hiroshi Takaki is composing the music. Hideaki Maniwa is the character designer and chief animation director.
