What is Chuhai?
The title Chuhai Lips refers to a popular Japanese alcoholic beverage. “Chūhai” is said to be an abbreviation of “Shōchū Highball,” generally referring to a drink made by mixing shōchū (a Japanese distilled spirit) and carbonated water. The manga and anime incorporate this drink as a central theme, symbolizing the intoxicating and potentially dangerous nature of the relationships explored in the story.
Story Synopsis
Chuhai Lips centers on Tsuyoshi, a college student who enjoys strong canned chūhai. His life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes entangled with various married women. The omnibus manga, written by Chinjao Musume and illustrated by Tama Nogami, explores the complexities of these encounters with a blend of humor and risqué situations.
The series explores the thrill and complications of an illicit romance, where every encounter is both intoxicating and dangerous.
Premiere Date and Where to Watch
Chuhai Lips: Canned Flavor of Married Women is set to premiere on July 1, 2025, on Tokyo MX, with a later broadcast on BS11 on July 6. The Deregula Edition, featuring uncensored and extended scenes, will be streamed exclusively on AnimeFesta in Japan, also premiering on July 1. The anime will be available on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on November 26, including all eight Deregula edition episodes and an OVA episode titled “Yui Koriyama – What Comes After…”
The opening theme song for the anime is “Can’t you high!?” by Uzuho.

The Chuhai Lips manga launched on Kodansha’s YanMaga Web website in February 2021 and is still ongoing. Kodansha began publishing the manga’s “Luxurious full-color strong edition” in June 2024.
Deregula Label and Uncensored Content
WWWave’s Deregula label specializes in producing uncensored versions of anime, which are typically streamed rather than aired on TV networks in Japan. Their first project, Yandere Dark Elf: She Chased Me All the Way From Another World!, is currently being streamed on HIDIVE in the west with a “least censored” version.
Is it Possible to Adapt?
After the anime adaptation was announced, manga artist Tama Nogami expressed doubts, questioning whether it was truly possible to create an anime series from the source material. Despite these initial concerns, the anime is moving forward with a talented team and a clear vision for bringing the manga’s unique blend of comedy and mature themes to the screen. As the premiere date approaches, fans can look forward to a potentially intoxicating and unforgettable anime experience.
