Synopsis and Creative Team
Cosmic Princess Kaguya! centers on Iroha Sakayori, a 17-year-old high school student in Tokyo leading a busy life. She finds solace in “Tsukuyomi,” a virtual space managed by the popular streamer Yachiyo Runami. Iroha’s ordinary world is upended when she discovers a baby emerging from a glowing telephone pole, who quickly grows into a girl her age named Kaguya. As Iroha becomes Kaguya’s music producer and Kaguya pursues her dream of becoming a top idol and streamer in Tsukuyomi, they forge a deep bond, unaware of an ominous force aiming to bring Kaguya back to the moon.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Shingo Yamashita, known for his iconic opening sequences for anime like Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 and Chainsaw Man. With a blend of a classic tale, modern virtual themes, and a powerhouse of musical talent, Cosmic Princess Kaguya! is set to be a significant release for Netflix in early 2026.
