Netflix’s highly anticipated anime film, Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, has revealed additional Japanese and English voice cast members, alongside a captivating new trailer ahead of its global premiere on January 22, 2026. The film, a modern reimagining of the classic Japanese folktale “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter,” blends music, virtual reality, and a compelling narrative under the direction of Shingo Yamashita.

Expanded Japanese Voice Cast Details

The Japanese voice cast for Cosmic Princess Kaguya! sees an impressive lineup bringing its vibrant characters to life. Yūko Natsuyoshi stars as Kaguya, the titular princess, while Anna Nagase voices Iroha Sakayori, a high school student whose life is intertwined with Kaguya’s. Saori Hayami lends her voice to Yachiyo Runami, the administrator and popular streamer of the virtual world “Tsukuyomi.”

Further additions to the Japanese cast include:

  • Rie Kugimiya as Fushi
  • Miyu Irino as Akira Mikado
  • Yuma Uchida as Rai Komazawa
  • Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Noi Komazawa
  • Yoshino Aoyama as Roka Ayatsumugi
  • Konomi Kohara as Mami Isayama
  • Fairouz Ai as Otako the Loyal Dog
  • Natsuki Hanae as Koto Okotteru

The film is produced by Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato, with character designs handled by Akihiro Nagae for the real world and illustrator hechima for the Tsukuyomi world.

Introducing the English Dub Cast

For international audiences, Netflix has also unveiled the English dub cast, featuring a talented ensemble to voice the key characters:

  • Jeannie Tirado as Kaguya
  • Dawn Bennett as Iroha Sakayori
  • Ryan Bartley as Yachiyo Runami (with Frankie Kevich providing the singing voice)
  • Max Mittelman as Akira Mikado
  • Casey Mongillo as Noi Komazawa
  • Cassandra Lee Morris as Roka Ayatsumugi
  • Anairis Quinones as Otako the Loyal Dog
  • Kieran Regan as Koto Okotteru

New Trailer Highlights Music and Virtual World Action

The latest trailer, described as the “main trailer” or “second trailer,” offers an immersive look into the film’s vibrant animation, compelling story, and rich musical elements. It showcases the dynamic relationship between Iroha and Kaguya, set against the backdrop of the colorful virtual realm of Tsukuyomi, where music and emotion are central.

The trailer notably features two key songs from the film’s soundtrack. The first half includes “Watashiha Watashinokotoga Suki” (“I like who I am”), an original song composed by HoneyWorks and performed by Yuko Natsuyoshi as Kaguya. The second half introduces “Ex-Otogibanashi” (“Ex-Fairy Tale”), the film’s main theme, composed by ryo (supercell) and performed by Saori Hayami as Yachiyo. The movie will also feature music from other renowned Vocaloid producers such as 40mP, yuigot, Aqu3ra, and kz(livetune).

Synopsis and Creative Team

Cosmic Princess Kaguya! centers on Iroha Sakayori, a 17-year-old high school student in Tokyo leading a busy life. She finds solace in “Tsukuyomi,” a virtual space managed by the popular streamer Yachiyo Runami. Iroha’s ordinary world is upended when she discovers a baby emerging from a glowing telephone pole, who quickly grows into a girl her age named Kaguya. As Iroha becomes Kaguya’s music producer and Kaguya pursues her dream of becoming a top idol and streamer in Tsukuyomi, they forge a deep bond, unaware of an ominous force aiming to bring Kaguya back to the moon.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Shingo Yamashita, known for his iconic opening sequences for anime like Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 and Chainsaw Man. With a blend of a classic tale, modern virtual themes, and a powerhouse of musical talent, Cosmic Princess Kaguya! is set to be a significant release for Netflix in early 2026.
