Netflix has unveiled a new main trailer and visual for the upcoming anime film Cosmic Princess Kaguya! (Chō Kaguya-hime!), offering a fresh look at the highly anticipated reimagining of the classic Japanese folktale, “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.” The latest promotional material highlights additional musical contributions and expands on the already impressive voice cast, building excitement for its January 22, 2026, premiere.
A Modern Retelling with a Musical Heart
Directed by Shingo Yamashita in his feature directorial debut, Cosmic Princess Kaguya! promises a vibrant, music-filled fantasy that blends traditional folklore with contemporary animation and a virtual realm known as Tsukuyomi. The film is a co-production between Studio Colorido (known for Drifting Home and My Oni Girl) and Yamashita’s Studio Chromato. The narrative centers on Iroha Sakayori, a high school student, whose life is transformed after encountering Kaguya, a mysterious girl who emerges from a telephone pole. The two bond over their shared love for virtual idols in Tsukuyomi.
Unveiling the Soundscape: New Songs and Vocaloid Producers
Music is a central pillar of Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, with a lineup of prominent Vocaloid producers contributing to its soundtrack. The latest trailer prominently features two key tracks:
- “Ex-Otogibanashi” (“Ex-Fairy Tale”): This main theme song is composed by ryo of Supercell, an artist celebrated for hits like Hatsune Miku’s “Melt.” The vocals for “Ex-Otogibanashi” are performed by Saori Hayami, in character as Yachiyo Runami. A six-track CD single for the song, alongside a four-track “CPK! Remix” single, is set for release on January 23, 2026.
- “Watashi wa, Watashi no Koto ga Suki.” (“I like who I am”): An insert song composed by HoneyWorks, also a well-known Vocaloid producer group.
Beyond these, the film’s musical landscape will also include contributions from other renowned Vocaloid producers such as Yuigot, Aqu3ra, 40mP, and kz of Livetune, ensuring a diverse and modern auditory experience. Conisch is composing the overall score for the film.
