Crunchyroll has revealed a new slate of anime titles set to stream on the platform, including the highly anticipated “This Monster Wants to Eat Me” and “My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s.” The announcement, made during Crunchyroll’s industry panel at AnimagiC in Germany, adds eight new series to its upcoming lineup, spanning various genres and release windows throughout 2025.

Diverse Additions to the Crunchyroll Catalog

The newly acquired titles promise a mix of fantasy, action, comedy, and unique premises, catering to a wide range of anime enthusiasts. While “This Monster Wants to Eat Me” and “My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s” lead the charge, the full list of announced series showcases Crunchyroll’s commitment to expanding its diverse content library.

This Monster Wants to Eat Me

Based on the yuri horror manga by Sai Naekawa, “This Monster Wants to Eat Me” (Japanese: Watashi o Tabetai, Hito de Nashi) tells the story of Hinako, a girl with a vague wish to die after a family accident, who encounters Shiori, a mermaid. Shiori informs Hinako that her flesh is particularly delicious to yōkai and promises to protect her from other monsters until she becomes even more “delicious,” at which point Shiori intends to eat her herself. Hinako accepts this bizarre pact. The anime adaptation is produced by Studio Lings with Infinite handling general production, and is set to premiere in October 2025.

My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s

This fantasy series, My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s (Assassin wa Ore Dake no Tokken desu), is another notable addition. While specific plot details were not immediately available in the search results, its inclusion suggests a compelling narrative within the popular “isekai” (another world) or fantasy-action genre.

Six More Exciting Titles

Beyond these two prominent titles, Crunchyroll also announced six other anime series to bolster its future offerings:

  • Alma-chan Wants to Be a Family! (Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai) – This series, set to debut in 2025, follows the comedic and heartwarming adventures of Alma, a perfect autonomous robot with the appearance of a young girl, created by two overlooked genius scientists. Alma’s boundless curiosity and learning capabilities keep her “parents” on their toes as they navigate their new family life.
  • Mechanical Marie – Scheduled for an October 2025 release, “Mechanical Marie” introduces Marie, a legendary martial artist now disguised as a robot maid. She works in the mansion of a conglomerate heir who despises humans, needing to keep her true identity hidden to survive while protecting Arthur from assassins.
  • Warrior Princess & Barbaric King
  • Plus-Sized Misadventures in Love
  • The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife
  • Roll Over and Die

Crunchyroll’s Expanding Anime Library

These new acquisitions further solidify Crunchyroll’s position as a leading destination for anime streaming. The platform consistently updates its catalog with both new premieres and ongoing series.

Recent and Upcoming Lineups

Crunchyroll’s Summer 2024 lineup, which began in July, features over 40 shows, including new titles and continuations. Highlights from the Summer 2024 season include Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season, Senpai is an Otokonoko, Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, and the return of NieR:Automata Ver1.1a Part 2. Continuing series like My Hero Academia Season 7, Tower of God Season 2, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 also streamed during this period.

Looking ahead, Crunchyroll’s Fall 2024 lineup, starting in October, is set to be substantial, with over 35 new and returning titles. Highly anticipated series for Fall 2024 include Dragon Ball Daima, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3, and Dan Da Dan. Other notable titles in the Fall 2024 roster include Blue Lock 2nd Season, Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest Season 3, and Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online Season 2.

The continuous addition of diverse new series like “This Monster Wants to Eat Me” and “My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s” ensures that Crunchyroll remains a central hub for anime fans worldwide.
