Main Cast and Character Insights
Two key voice actors have been announced for the leading roles:
- Kohei Amasaki will voice the protagonist, Yoki. Amasaki is known for his roles as Masachika in Roshidere and Will in Wistoria: Wand and Sword. He commented on Yoki, describing him as a “former human turned demon in a fantasy world” who is 21 but retains a “middle schooler fantasy edge,” making him a fun character to play due to the contrast with his actual age. Amasaki highlighted the series’ balance between romance and comedy and encouraged viewers to pay attention to the development of Yoki and Cecilia’s relationship.
- Kana Hanazawa will lend her voice to Cecilia, the kind cleric from the hero’s party. Hanazawa is a prominent voice actress, notably known for her role as Mitsuri in Demon Slayer. She described Cecilia as the party’s cleric who “always watching over everyone kindly” and possesses a “nurturing nature.” Hanazawa also noted Cecilia’s self-sacrificing tendencies and how meeting Yoki brings joy into her life, emphasizing the “fluttery, heartwarming moments” in their love story.
A teaser visual has also been unveiled, featuring Cecilia blushing faintly with Yoki smiling innocently in the background, accompanied by the tagline “The Purest Love in Another World.”
The Story: A Romantic Fantasy Comedy
The narrative of “There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, So I Tried Confessing to Her” is a romantic fantasy comedy. It centers on Yoki, a man who, after dying in a traffic accident, is reincarnated into a fantasy world. However, he doesn’t become the heroic protagonist or the formidable Demon Lord. Instead, he finds himself as an overpowered demon and a mid-level boss or “low rank guardian” in the Demon Lord’s castle, with no particular desire to become the Demon Lord himself.
His peaceful, albeit unassuming, life takes an unexpected turn when a hero’s party arrives to attack the Demon Lord’s stronghold. While Yoki effortlessly repels their assault, he is instantly smitten with Cecilia, a kind yet strong-willed cleric who is part of the hero’s party. Despite being admired by his subordinates, Yoki becomes shy and awkward in Cecilia’s presence, leading to a heartwarming and often comedic pursuit of love between a demon and a cleric.
Origin of the Series: Light Novels and Manga
The story originated as a web novel written by Suisei, which began serialization on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let’s Become Novelists) website in 2013. Futabasha later started publishing the series in print as a light novel, featuring illustrations by La-na.
A manga adaptation by Kairi is currently serialized on Futabasha’s online platforms, Manga Gaogao and Gaogao Monster Plus. The manga adaptation is widely credited as the basis for the anime series. The manga is ongoing and has been published since at least January 2021. The 10th volume of the manga was released in November 2024.
The announcement of the TV anime adaptation marks a significant milestone for the romantic fantasy series, promising to bring its unique charm and endearing characters to a wider audience.
