Dark Horse Comics announced its acquisition of John Tarachine’s critically acclaimed manga, Credits Roll Into the Sea (Umi ga Hashiru Endroll), during its Anime NYC panel on Saturday. The series, praised for its poignant narrative about a woman discovering filmmaking later in life, will be released in English by Dark Horse. While the announcement confirms the license, a specific release date for the English edition has not yet been provided.
About Credits Roll Into the Sea
Credits Roll Into the Sea centers on Umiko, a 65-year-old woman grappling with the recent loss of her husband. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she visits a movie theater for the first time in decades. There, she encounters Kai, a university student majoring in film, and finds herself captivated by the audience’s reactions to the movie. This serendipitous meeting sparks a profound realization within Umiko: a burgeoning desire to make films herself. The manga then follows her journey as she immerses herself in the world of filmmaking.
The series, originally launched by John Tarachine in Akita Shoten’s Mystery Bonita magazine in October 2020, has garnered significant critical attention. Akita Shoten released the eighth compiled book volume in Japan on July 17, and the manga is set to conclude with its ninth volume.
