David Production, the acclaimed studio behind JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Fire Force, is set to release its first original television anime series, Onmyō Kaiten Re:verse. The highly anticipated anime is scheduled to premiere in July 2025 and promises a unique blend of Japanese-style fantasy and cyberpunk elements.
A Leap into the Tranquil Capital of Divine Lightning
The anime is set in an alternate version of Heian-kyō, the ancient capital of Japan, reimagined as a technologically advanced metropolis called Denji Heian-kyō (The Tranquil Capital of Divine Lightning). The story follows Takeru Narihira, a delinquent high school student from our world, who finds himself transported to this strange, new Heian-kyō after a fateful accident.
Plot: Time-Leaping Onmyōji in a Cyberpunk Heian Era
Takeru’s journey begins when he develops feelings for a mysterious girl named Tsukimiya, who repeatedly appears in his dreams. After falling off a cliff, he awakens in Denji Heian-kyō, a technologically advanced version of the Heian era, guarded by the powerful onmyōji, Abeno Seimei. To his surprise, Tsukimiya exists in this reality.
However, their reunion is short-lived, as a black fog called “Black Mist” appears, and a monster known as an “Oni” kills both Takeru and Tsukimiya. But Takeru suddenly awakens again in Denji Heian-kyō, realizing he has the power to time-leap. Determined to save Tsukimiya, he decides to learn onmyō techniques from Abeno Seimei and fight as an Onmyōji to change their tragic fate.
