What is Dead Account About?
Dead Account is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Shizumu Watanabe. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in January 2023, before transferring to the Magazine Pocket website in October of the same year. As of June 2025, eleven tankōbon volumes have been collected. The manga is also available in English on Kodansha’s “K Manga” app.
The story delves into a modern world where “Dead Accounts”—social media profiles of the deceased—persist online due to lingering regrets, manifesting as digital ghosts known as “Bake Aka.” The narrative follows Soji Enishiro, who, after a fateful encounter, awakens a unique power and attends Miden Academy, a school dedicated to training new-age spirit mediums to exorcise these internet ghosts. The series is described as a “modern-style exorcism” battle action.
