Meanwhile, Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Cho Karei! Shakunetsu no Kasukabe Dancers has slipped to #5 in its second weekend of release.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Film’s Unstoppable Ascent
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns, which premiered on July 18, 2025, has demonstrated phenomenal staying power in Japanese cinemas. In its fifth weekend (August 15-17), the film added an impressive 1.875 billion yen (approximately US$12.67 million) from 1,218,000 admissions, showing only a slight decline from the previous weekend.
After 31 days in theaters, Infinity Castle has amassed a cumulative total of 25.78 billion yen (US$174.32 million) from over 18.27 million tickets sold. This remarkable performance has propelled the film to become the fourth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, surpassing both Disney’s Frozen (25.5 billion yen) and Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name. (25.17 billion yen). Within the anime film category, it now ranks as the third highest-grossing title, trailing only Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away.
The film had already made headlines by setting new records for the highest opening day gross, highest single-day box office revenue, and the biggest opening weekend in Japanese cinematic history. It also swiftly crossed the 10 billion yen milestone in under ten days, breaking a record previously held by its franchise predecessor, Mugen Train. Beyond Japan, Infinity Castle has also performed strongly, debuting at number one in several Asian markets, including Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, contributing to a worldwide gross exceeding $200 million.
Crayon Shin-chan Film’s Box Office Trajectory
The 32nd 2D animated Crayon Shin-chan film, officially titled Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Cho Karei! Shakunetsu no Kasukabe Dancers (“Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Hot! The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers”), debuted on August 8, 2025. In its opening weekend, the film secured the #4 spot at the Japanese box office, selling 363,000 tickets and earning 450,283,700 yen (about US$3.07 million) in its first three days. Including the Mountain Day holiday, its four-day total reached 633 million yen (about US$4.33 million) from 516,000 admissions.
However, in its second weekend, the Crayon Shin-chan movie saw a drop to the #5 position, generating approximately 309 million yen (US$2.09 million) from 246,000 admissions. Its cumulative two-week gross stands at 1.3 billion yen (US$8.79 million) with 1.06 million admissions. The film is notable for being the first in the long-running franchise to be set in India.
