The highly anticipated 29th Detective Conan film, officially titled Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway (Japanese: Meitantei Conan: Highway no Datenshi), has unveiled a new teaser visual drawn by original manga creator Gosho Aoyama and a promotional video, ahead of its Japanese theatrical debut on April 10, 2026.
Unveiling the Teaser Visual: Chihaya Hagiwara Takes Center Stage
The newly released teaser visual, personally crafted by Gosho Aoyama, places Kanagawa Prefectural Police member Chihaya Hagiwara prominently at its core. Hagiwara, making her cinematic debut, is depicted riding a police motorcycle with Conan Edogawa holding on behind her. The visual is accompanied by the intriguing tagline, “Do not fall off, boy.”
The artwork also features other key characters such as high school detective Masumi Sera and Kanagawa Police Inspector Jugo Yokomizo. Adding a layer of mystery, the visual includes images of Chihaya’s late younger brother, Kenji Hagiwara, and his close friend Jinpei Matsuda, raising questions about their connection to the film’s central case and the meaning behind the “fallen angel” moniker.
Teaser Video and Fan Anticipation
A teaser video for Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway was first released in late August, generating significant buzz and quickly accumulating over 300,000 likes on X, marking it as the highest-engaged teaser post in the franchise’s history. The video featured a countdown, snippets from the manga showcasing Chihaya, and the distinct rumble of a motorcycle. It culminated with a white feather falling and burning, as Chihaya’s voice can be heard asking, “What did you want to tell me that day…?” This early preview signaled strong fan anticipation for the character’s theatrical debut.
Key Characters and Production Team
The film is set to delve into a storyline centered around Chihaya Hagiwara, a member of the Kanagawa Traffic Mobile Unit, whom Ran Mori once affectionately called the “goddess of the wind.” Notably, Miyuki Sawashiro will be taking over the voice role of Chihaya Hagiwara, succeeding the late Atsuko Tanaka. Other returning characters include Conan Edogawa (voiced by Minami Takayama), Ran Mori (Wakana Yamazaki), Kogoro Mori (Rikiya Koyama), Ai Haibara (Megumi Hayashibara), and Masumi Sera (Noriko Hidaka).
The 29th Detective Conan movie boasts a seasoned production team. Takahiro Hasui, known for his work on Mob Psycho 100 III, is directing the film. The script is penned by Takahiro Okura, who also wrote Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, while Yugo Kanno, recognized for his contributions to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and PSYCHO-PASS, is composing the music. TMS Entertainment is handling the animation production.
A Milestone Release for the Franchise
Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway is poised to be a significant entry in the long-running series, coinciding with the television anime’s 30th anniversary in January 2026. The Detective Conan franchise continues to demonstrate its enduring popularity, with the previous 28th film, Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, grossing over 14.4 billion yen (approximately $97 million USD) and attracting over 10 million viewers. The consistent success has seen the films break the 10-billion-yen mark for three consecutive years, setting new records for a Japanese film series.
