The highly anticipated new anime series, DIGIMON BEATBREAK, officially premiered in Japan on October 5, 2025, with new episodes releasing weekly, offering fans a fresh and darker perspective on the beloved Digital World. Produced by Toei Animation, the series introduces a new continuity, moving away from traditional fantasy elements into a sci-fi setting where human emotions power AI devices and Digimon materialize to feast on this “e-Pulse.” International audiences can stream the series on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
A New Era for Digimon: Plot and Premise
DIGIMON BEATBREAK plunges viewers into a world where human thoughts and emotions generate a mysterious energy called “e-Pulse,” which serves as the power source for advanced AI support devices known as “Sapotama.” However, this technological marvel has a terrifying byproduct: Digimon begin to materialize from these Sapotama devices, evolving by consuming e-Pulse and fracturing society in the process.
The story centers on protagonist Tomoro Tenma, who encounters the Digimon Gekkomon emerging from his own Sapotama. This encounter draws Tomoro into the “Glowing Dawn” (also referred to as “Golden Dawn”), a secret team dedicated to investigating rogue Digimon and uncovering the sinister truth behind the AI system. Critics have noted Digimon Beatbreak‘s departure from previous entries, describing it as a “dark and serious, but still fun and imaginative action-adventure series” that focuses on sci-fi without traditional fantasy elements, where danger is palpable and lives are at stake.

A Bold Direction for the Franchise
DIGIMON BEATBREAK marks a significant new direction for the Digimon franchise, especially as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The anime aims to revitalize the series by taking risks and breaking traditional rules, offering a narrative that is both familiar in its core concept of human-Digimon partnership and entirely new in its execution and thematic depth. Its focus on a bleaker atmosphere, the fear inspired by Digimon, and potential critique of AI’s rise sets it apart, leading some to suggest it could be the greatest Digimon anime since Digimon Tamers.
