The highly anticipated anime series, Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation, officially premiered its first season, “Episode of Heartslabyul,” on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The series is streaming exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu, with new episodes releasing weekly on Wednesdays.
This initial season, consisting of eight episodes, is set to run into December, bringing the world of Night Raven College to screens worldwide.
Journey into Twisted-Wonderland
Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation is an adaptation of the popular Japanese mobile game, a collaborative effort between Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan. The game, which first launched in Japan in 2020 and globally in 2022, reimagines iconic Disney villains as stylish students attending a prestigious magic training academy called Night Raven College. Yana Toboso, renowned creator of Black Butler, is credited with the original concept, main script, and character designs, imbuing the series with a distinctive gothic aesthetic.
The anime introduces an ordinary high school student, Yuken Enma, who is mysteriously transported to the magical realm of Twisted-Wonderland. Finding himself at the enrollment ceremony for Night Raven College, a school built around seven dormitories inspired by legendary Disney villains, Yuken must navigate this unfamiliar world without any magical abilities of his own. He is taken in by Headmaster Dire Crowley and, alongside a fire-breathing monster named Grim, begins his new life as he searches for a way back home.
Episode of Heartslabyul: A Deep Dive into Wonderland
The first season, “Episode of Heartslabyul,” specifically adapts the manga arc inspired by Alice in Wonderland. It focuses on the Heartslabyul dormitory and its strict leader, Riddle Rosehearts, who enforces the “Queen of Hearts’ Laws” with unwavering severity. The visual for this season prominently features Yuken, Grim, Riddle Rosehearts, and other members of the Heartslabyul dorm, setting the stage for the unfolding narrative.
The anime sees many voice actors from the original game reprising their roles. Yōhei Azakami joins the cast as the anime-exclusive protagonist, Yuken Enma. Key returning cast members for the Heartslabyul Dorm include Natsuki Hanae as Riddle Rosehearts, Seiichirō Yamashita as Ace Trappola, Chiaki Kobayashi as Deuce Spade, Ryōta Suzuki as Trey Clover, and Tatsuyuki Kobayashi as Cater Diamond. Noriaki Sugiyama voices Grim, and Mitsuru Miyamoto takes on the role of Dire Crowley. Takumi Ozawa, the game’s composer, is also scoring the anime’s music.
Future Seasons and Expanding Lore
Disney has confirmed that Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation will run for three seasons. Following “Episode of Heartslabyul,” subsequent seasons are slated to adapt “Episode of Savanaclaw,” inspired by The Lion King, and “Episode of Octavinelle,” which draws inspiration from The Little Mermaid.
The anime is produced by Yumeta Company and Graphinica, with Takahiro Natori serving as chief director and series script supervisor, and Shin Katagai directing. Yoichi Kato is credited as the main writer, while Hanaka Nakano and Akane Satō are responsible for character designs. The opening theme song, “Piece of my world,” is performed by “Night Ravens.”
