A new, extended promotional video for the upcoming anime film Fushigi no Kuni de Alice to -Dive in Wonderland- (With Alice in Wonderland -Dive in Wonderland-) has been released, featuring the theme song “Zukan” (Guidebook) by the popular Japanese band SEKAI NO OWARI. The film is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on August 29, 2025.
The new trailer offers a deeper look into the film’s visuals and story, which is an original reimagining of Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland, adapted for a modern setting.
A Fresh Take on a Classic Tale
Dive in Wonderland centers on Rise Azumino, a university student who feels lost in her life. She stumbles into Wonderland through an invitation left by her late grandmother, where she encounters Alice. Together, Rise and Alice embark on an adventure, encountering various quirky inhabitants of Wonderland, including the White Rabbit, Caterpillar, Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter, and Cheshire Cat.
This film marks the first full-length theatrical anime adaptation of Alice in Wonderland in Japan. P.A. Works, known for their high-quality animation in titles like SHIROBAKO and The Aquatope on White Sand, is producing the anime. Toshiya Shinohara (known for The Aquatope on White Sand) is directing, with Yuko Kakihara (The Apothecary Diaries) handling the screenplay. Concept design is by Kiyoshi Arai, who has worked on the Final Fantasy series.
SEKAI NO OWARI’s “Zukan” Sets the Tone
SEKAI NO OWARI’s theme song, “Zukan,” is prominently featured in the new promotional video and is described as gently expressing the movie’s message. The song aims to accompany listeners on their “journey to find their place,” aligning with protagonist Rise’s personal journey within the story. A special music video for “Zukan” was also released, showcasing scenes from the film.
Cast and Production Details
The film boasts a talented voice cast, including Nanoka Hara as Rise and Maika Pugh as Alice. Additional cast members revealed include Mayu Matsuoka as the Queen of Hearts, Kōji Yamamoto as the Mad Hatter, Norito Yashima as the March Hare, and Kappei Yamaguchi as the White Rabbit. Shochiku and TBS are coordinating the film’s production.
The promotional video also offers glimpses of the voice actors in the recording booth, further building anticipation for the film’s release. With its unique premise and strong creative team, Dive in Wonderland aims to offer a fresh and engaging cinematic experience for fans of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale.
