The official website for WWWave’s Deregula label’s short television anime adaptation of Yakinikuteishoku’s manga, Does It Count If You Lose Your Virginity to an Android? (Android wa Keiken Ninzū ni Hairimasu ka??), officially opened, announcing the main cast, staff, and a January 2026 premiere. The romantic comedy series follows the unexpected cohabitation of an office worker and a “Romance-roid”.

Key Cast Members Bringing the Android Romance to Life

The anime’s on-air version features a talented cast to portray the central characters. Ayaka Shimizu will voice Akane Tsuda, a seemingly put-together 28-year-old office worker who works for a robotics manufacturer but has a messy private life. Marika Hayase takes on the role of Nadeshiko, the “Romance-roid” that Akane drunkenly purchases, an illegal yet charming android with extensive knowledge in romantic and sexual matters. Additionally, Komaru Kurikoma, a VTuber from the Aogiri High School group, will make a guest appearance as Itō-san, Akane’s junior colleague at work.

Akane Tsuda (Voiced by Ayaka Shimizu)

Akane Tsuda is portrayed as a highly capable and admired employee at her robotics firm, yet her home life is chaotic and she struggles with personal relationships. Her impulsive purchase of Nadeko sets the stage for the series’ “sweet and slightly naughty” premise.

Nadeshiko (Voiced by Marika Hayase)

Nadeshiko is an illegal adult-use romance android whose arrival dramatically alters Akane’s life. Despite her advanced capabilities and playful teasing, Nadeko begins to experience human emotions as she spends more time with Akane.

Creative Team Behind the Adaptation

The production of Does It Count If You Lose Your Virginity to an Android? is handled by WWWave’s Deregula label, known for other short anime series.

Director and Series Composition

Neko B is taking on the dual role of directing the anime at Nyan Pollution-ω- and overseeing the series scripts.

Character Design and Art Direction

Mitsuru Tsukiumi, known for their work as chief animation director on Protocol: Rain, is responsible for character design and serving as the color key artist. Yutaka Aota is directing the art, and Tomohiro Hayashi is credited as the compositing director of photography and editor.

Sound and Music

Fumihiko Ōtera is the sound director for the series, while ZincP is composing the music, aiming to enhance the unique atmosphere of the show.

Manga Origins and English Release

The anime is based on the yuri manga series by Yakinikuteishoku, which began serialization in Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime magazine in July 2021. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the manga for English-language release, describing it as a “sexy yuri comedy about an office lady and her lovely robot housekeeper”. The manga has garnered attention, being featured on BookWalker’s top-selling manga for 2023 and 2024. The sixth compiled book volume was published on May 16.

The story delves into Akane’s life after she drunkenly purchases Nadeko, an android that is both a maid and an illegal “Romance-roid.” Their cohabitation explores the blurring lines between humanity and artificial intelligence in a comedic and sensual manner. The anime is set to premiere in January 2026, promising to bring the manga’s “sweet and slightly naughty” narrative to the screen.
