The popular short spinoff anime series Dokodemo Makibao is returning for a second season titled Dokodemo Makibao: World Tour, which began streaming on October 8. The new season sees the return of original cast members and expands the comedic horse racing premise to a global scale.
The series is available every Wednesday at 7 a.m. JST across multiple platforms, including the official YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Instagram accounts of Sukima no Anime.
Makibao Embarks on a Global Training Journey
Dokodemo Makibao: World Tour follows the titular donkey-like racehorse Makibao and his companions as they travel around the world to train for an ultimate race against his long-standing rival, Cascade. Each episode of the new season promises unique competitions inspired by different countries, bringing fresh and humorous challenges to the beloved characters. These diverse “world races” include events such as a beer-carrying race in Germany, a rodeo in the United States, and even an encounter with aliens in Antarctica.
Commemorating 30 Years of Midori no Makibao
The Dokodemo Makibao spinoff anime series was originally launched to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Tsunomaru’s popular horse racing manga, Midori no Makibao, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1994 to 1998. The original manga and its 61-episode anime adaptation, which aired from 1996 to 1997, gained significant popularity for their unique blend of comedy and sports drama, following Makibao’s journey from an underdog to a champion known as the “White Miracle.”
The first season of Dokodemo Makibao (also referred to as Dokodemo Makibao: Everywhere) debuted on December 16, 2024, featuring “everyday races” like picking up trash on the beach or competing to be the first to a department store’s gourmet food section.
Returning Cast and Creative Team
Ikue Otani reprises her role as Makibao’s sister, Makibako, in the Dokodemo Makibao: World Tour season. Other returning voice actors from the original TV anime include Inuko Inuyama as Midori Makibao (Unkotarezo), Shigeru Chiba as Chubei, and Toshiharu Sakurai as Sugasuke. FROGMAN, known for his work on Secret Society Eagle Talon, continues to direct, oversee the scripts, and produce the anime at DLE. Kyōhei Matsuno is credited for composing the music. The collaboration between KDDI and DLE under the “Sukima no Anime” short anime distribution project continues to bring these shorts to audiences.
The series is not region-locked, though subtitles are not provided.
