Kyoto Animation’s highly anticipated film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryū), has officially premiered in Japan, revealing its non-credit opening sequence, additional cast members, and new visuals. The film opened on Friday, June 27, 2025, in 199 theaters across Japan, including immersive 4DX and MX4D screenings. Crunchyroll has acquired the worldwide theatrical rights, excluding Asia, and plans to screen the film in North America in Japanese with English subtitles.
Non-Credit Opening and Theme Song
The official website for the film unveiled the non-credit opening sequence, providing an early look at the film’s animated introduction. The opening theme song, titled “Namida no Parade” (Parade of Tears), is performed by the returning series regular fhána. An insert song, “Negaigoto” (Wish), is performed by Kotringo, while Sachiko Kobayashi performs the ending theme song, “Bokutachi no Hibi” (Days of Us).
Expanded and Returning Voice Cast
The film introduces new voices to the beloved dragon and human ensemble, alongside the return of fan-favorite cast members. Notably, Shiori Sugiura takes over the role of Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi, who retired from voice acting in 2022.
Additional new cast members include:
- Fumihiko Tachiki as Kimun Kamui
- Nobunaga Shimazaki as Azad
- Sachiko Kobayashi as Felicitas, a dragon in Kimun Kamui’s army. This marks Kobayashi’s first time voicing a dragon character.
- Shinya Takahashi and Azusa Tadokoro as fairies

Released Visuals and Production Details
Leading up to its release, the film unveiled several key visuals. A new key visual was revealed at AnimeJapan 2025, ahead of its June 27 premiere. This visual, along with others, depicts both familiar characters and new antagonists. One teaser visual focused on Kanna, Kobayashi, and Tohru holding hands, while another showed a collaboration visual by original manga author Coolkyoushinja and character designer Miku Kadowaki.
Tatsuya Ishihara, known for his work on Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S and Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, directs the anime film at Kyoto Animation. Yuka Yamada penned the script, and Miku Kadowaki is responsible for character designs and serves as chief animation director. The late Yasuhiro Takemoto, the original series director, is credited posthumously.
