This special episode is expected to set the stage for the main story, providing crucial backstory and context. Previously, a world premiere for Episodes 1 & 2 was held at Anime NYC 2025 on August 24.
Exploring Love in a Transformed Future: The Anime’s Intriguing Plot
“Dusk Beyond the End of the World” delves into a sci-fi drama set in a future where society has been reshaped by advanced technology, including evolving AI and new forms of relationships between humans and androids. The plot centers on Akira Himegami, a man who awakens 200 years after being placed in cold sleep to find a drastically altered world. An organization called Owel now holds power, and traditional marriage has been replaced by a system called “Elsie.”
Akira’s journey begins when he encounters an android named Yūgure, who bears a striking resemblance to his former love, Towasa Ōmaki, and proposes marriage to him. Despite this, Akira is convinced that Towasa is still alive and embarks on a quest to find her, with Yūgure joining him. The series promises to explore the complexities of love and relationships in this technologically advanced, post-apocalyptic landscape.
Key Cast and Production Team Revealed
The main cast features Shūichirō Umeda as the voice of Akira Himegami, Yui Ishikawa as Yūgure, and Ai Kayano as Towasa Ōmaki. The addition of Miyu Tomita as Amoru further expands the voice cast.
P.A. Works, known for its visually stunning and emotionally resonant projects, is producing the anime in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Naokatsu Tsuda, acclaimed for his work on “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” is at the helm, serving as both director and series composer. Midori Tayama is credited with original character designs, while Yoshiko Saitō is handling the animation character designs. The music for the series is composed by Masahiro Tokuda. The opening theme song, “Platform,” will be performed by Uru.

For international audiences, HIDIVE has secured the streaming rights for “Dusk Beyond the End of the World” in North America and other selected territories. The series will be part of HIDIVE’s Fall 2025 simulcast season. In Japan, the anime is scheduled to premiere in October 2025 on the Super Animeism Turbo programming block across JNN affiliates, including MBS and TBS.
