Tokyo, Japan – Masahito Soda and Kuro Tomiyama’s popular manga series, Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange (Megumi no Daigo: Kyūkoku no Orange), has officially gone on an indefinite hiatus. The announcement was made in the November issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine on Monday, October 6, 2025, with no set date for its return.
This hiatus follows the conclusion of the manga’s first part in February 2024, after which it took a temporary break before resuming with its second part in May of the same year. The magazine indicated that further announcements regarding the manga’s resumption will be made in the future.
The Legacy of Firefighter Daigo
Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange is a compelling sequel to Masahito Soda’s highly acclaimed 90s series, Firefighter! Daigo of Fire Company M. The original manga, which ran from 1995 to 1999 in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday, earned the 42nd Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category in 1996 and boasted over 14 million copies in circulation by December 2022. It followed the journey of Daigo Asahina, a young man determined to overcome his fears and become a heroic firefighter after being rescued as a child.
Introducing a New Generation of Heroes
The sequel, launched in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine in October 2020, introduces a new trio of aspiring firefighters: Toake Daigo, Onoda Shun, and Nakamura Yuki. Their shared ambition is to join the elite “Orange” rescue corps.
- Toake Daigo is depicted as a talented and determined individual with an almost supernatural ability to handle dangerous situations.
- Onoda Shun is characterized by his intensity and diligent work ethic.
- Nakamura Yuki, one of the few female aspiring members, possesses sharp observational skills and a deep-seated dedication to the fire department.
The series delves into their rigorous training and personal challenges as they strive to become full-fledged rescue workers, with their connections to one another proving to be more profound than initially apparent.
Critical Acclaim and Anime Adaptation
Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange quickly garnered attention, earning a nomination in the Best Shonen Manga category at the 47th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2023. As of August 2025, twelve tankōbon volumes of the manga have been released.
The manga’s popularity led to an anime television series adaptation produced by Brain’s Base. The anime premiered on September 30, 2023, airing across NNS affiliates, including ytv and Nippon TV, and was streamed by Crunchyroll. The anime’s second cour began airing in January 2024.
Fans will now await further announcements from Kodansha regarding the return of this beloved firefighting saga.
