Kenjirō Hata’s popular “Fly Me to the Moon” (Tonikaku Kawaii) manga is taking a three-issue break, as announced in the 40th issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. The romantic comedy series is slated to resume serialization in the magazine’s 44th issue on October 1.
This marks the second hiatus for the beloved manga this year. The series had previously returned to publication on June 25, following a break that began on May 7.
Details of the Hiatus and Return
The temporary pause means fans will not see new chapters of the “Fly Me to the Moon” manga for several weeks. The announcement from Weekly Shonen Sunday confirmed the upcoming absence, providing a clear return date for readers to anticipate.
Author’s History and Previous Breaks
Manga author Kenjirō Hata has previously taken breaks from his serialization schedule. In October 2023, the “Tonikaku Kawaii” manga went on a month-long hiatus, with Hata citing the shocking story developments in Gege Akutami’s “Jujutsu Kaisen” as the reason for his break, indicating the personal impact other works can have on creators. While no specific reason has been given for this latest break, such pauses are often undertaken for the mangaka’s health, to manage production schedules, or to prepare for significant story arcs.
