Anticipated Return: Trailer Unveils New Season Details

Fans of the critically acclaimed anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End can rejoice as a new teaser trailer for its second season has been officially unveiled. The trailer’s release coincided with Anime Expo 2025, an event that provided a platform for significant announcements regarding the anime’s highly anticipated return. The new season is set to premiere in January 2026, building on the success of its 28-episode first season, which captivated audiences from September 2024.

The reveal at Anime Expo 2025 included a panel featuring key members of the production team, such as Chiaki Kobayashi, the Japanese voice actor for Stark, producer Yuichiro Fukushi, and series composer Evan Call. Their presence highlighted the excitement surrounding the continuation of Frieren’s journey.

Behind the Scenes: Staffing Changes and Returning Talent

The second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will see both familiar faces and new additions to its production staff, ensuring the series maintains its high quality while introducing fresh perspectives. Studio MADHOUSE, responsible for the animation of the first season, will continue its work on Season 2.

Directorial Roles and Leadership

A notable change in the production team is the appointment of Tomoya Kitagawa as the new director for the second season. Kitagawa previously directed episodes 2, 8, and 25 of the first season, demonstrating his familiarity with the series’ tone and execution. Keiichiro Saito, who directed the first season, will transition to a supervising director role, offering continued guidance to the production. Daiki Harashina, who directed the third episode of the initial season, has been promoted to assistant director.

Character Design and Art Direction

The character design team will see new contributions from Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka, who will now handle the character designs. They replace Reiko Nagasawa, who served as character designer for the first season. Seiko Yoshioka will continue her role in concept art.

Series Composition and Music

Tomohiro Suzuki is confirmed to return as the series composer, ensuring continuity in the narrative’s structure and pacing. Evan Call will also reprise his role as the music composer, continuing to craft the evocative soundtrack that has been a hallmark of the series.

Global Access: Crunchyroll Confirmed for Streaming

Crunchyroll has officially announced that it will stream Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2. The streaming giant will make the new season available to audiences worldwide, with the exception of Asia, but including India and the Indian subcontinent. This global simulcast ensures that fans outside of Japan can follow Frieren’s ongoing adventures as they air. Crunchyroll also currently streams the first season, offering both Japanese with subtitles and dubbed formats for viewers. The acquisition was announced shortly before the trailer’s debut at Anime Expo 2025.

The confirmation of Crunchyroll as the streaming home solidifies the anime’s reach, allowing it to connect with its vast international fanbase. The first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End garnered significant acclaim, winning several Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Best Director, Best Background Art, Best Drama, and Best Supporting Character for Fern. It was also a runner-up for Best Anime in the 2024 Anime of the Year Awards, highlighting its widespread appeal and critical success.

The Journey Continues: January 2026 Premiere

The second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is slated for a January 2026 premiere, aligning with the winter anime schedule. While a specific concrete release date within January has yet to be announced, the confirmation of the month provides a clear timeframe for fans eagerly awaiting the continuation of the story. The series is based on the award-winning manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, which has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine since April 2020. The manga continues to be available through various platforms, including Sunday Webry, Viz Media, and the Shogakukan Comic website.
