A new trailer for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 has been released, offering fans a fresh look at the highly anticipated continuation of the beloved anime series. The trailer also reveals that milet will perform the ending theme song, titled “Story of Us.” The second season is officially slated to premiere on January 16, 2026.

New Trailer Highlights Emotional Journey and “Story of Us”

The newly released trailer provides glimpses into the upcoming adventures of the elven mage Frieren and her companions, Fern and Stark. It hints at further emotional depth and magical trials as the trio continues their journey. A significant highlight of the trailer is the preview of milet’s new ending theme song, “Story of Us,” which provides a poignant backdrop to the visuals. While milet previously performed “Anytime Anywhere” and “Bliss” for the first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, “Story of Us” is a new track for the second season.

milet’s Continued Musical Contribution

Japanese singer milet is no stranger to the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End franchise. She previously contributed the first season’s ending theme, “Anytime Anywhere,” and a special ending theme, “Bliss,” for the initial four-episode premiere broadcast. Her continued involvement with “Story of Us” for Season 2 reinforces her connection to the series’ melancholic yet hopeful tone. milet has also performed theme songs for other notable anime, including Fate/Grand Order – Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia, Vinland Saga, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Swordsmith Village Arc.

Season 2 Details and What to Expect

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 is set to pick up where the first season left off, continuing Frieren’s reflective journey of self-discovery and her deepening understanding of human connection. The story is expected to adapt the “First-Class Mage Exam arc,” which will see Frieren, Fern, and Stark heading towards the Northern Plateau, encountering new characters, and facing challenging magical trials.

Returning Cast and Production Team

Atsumi Tanezaki will return as the voice of Frieren, alongside Kana Ichinose as Fern and Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark. Nobuhiko Okamoto (Himmel), Hiroki Tochi (Heiter), and Yoji Ueda (Eisen) are also expected to reprise their roles for flashback sequences. While Studio MADHOUSE continues to produce the animation, Tomoya Kitagawa will take over as director for Season 2, replacing Keiichiro Saito. Tomohiro Suzuki remains in charge of series composition, with Evan Call returning to compose the music.

Crunchyroll has confirmed it will stream the second season as it airs in Japan, making it accessible to international audiences. The first season garnered critical acclaim and was a strong contender for various anime awards in 2024, earning praise for its unique narrative that explores themes of mortality, legacy, and the value of time. The manga, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, which the anime adapts, is currently on an indefinite hiatus.
