Fans of the intense and often disturbing manga series “Gantz” have a reason to celebrate. Its spinoff, “Gantz G,” is being re-released in a single, hefty omnibus edition this September, offering a new opportunity to dive into its unique brand of sci-fi horror.

Dark Horse to Publish “Gantz G” Omnibus

Dark Horse Comics, the publisher known for bringing numerous manga titles to North American audiences, is set to release the complete “Gantz G” series in a single omnibus volume. This comprehensive edition will hit bookstores and comic shops on September 30, 2025, with a suggested retail price of $29.99.

This follows Dark Horse’s previous publication of the original 37-volume “Gantz” manga, which they also collected into 12 omnibus editions.

What is “Gantz G”? A Deadly Game Begins Anew

“Gantz G” is a spinoff of the original “Gantz” manga, penned by Hiroya Oku, the creator of the “Gantz” universe, alongside Tomohito Ohsaki, with the artwork brought to life by Keita Iizuka.

The story of “Gantz G” centers around a group of high school students who meet a tragic end when their school bus plunges off a bridge. However, death is not the end for them. They awaken in an empty room, greeted by a mysterious black sphere known as Gantz. This sphere forces them into a deadly game where they must hunt down and eliminate aliens.

Here’s the premise:

  • Recruited from Death: The students are unwilling participants in a violent game.
  • The Gantz Sphere: A mysterious black sphere gives them their missions.
  • Alien Hunting: They are tasked with hunting down and killing various alien targets.
  • Points and Resurrection: By earning enough points through these deadly encounters, they have the chance to be resurrected or gain access to better weapons.
  • Ultimatum: Fail to earn enough points, and they face permanent death.

The Creators Behind the Horror

Hiroya Oku is the mastermind behind the “Gantz” franchise. Born on September 16, 1967, Oku is a Japanese manga artist known for his seinen manga, which often includes graphic violence, sexual content, and thought-provoking themes. Besides “Gantz,” his notable works include “Hen,” “Inuyashiki,” and “Gigant”.

Tomohito Ohsaki collaborated with Oku on the “Gantz G” storyline. Keita Iizuka is the artist who visually realized the world and characters of “Gantz G”. Matthew Johnson is credited as the translator, with lettering by Studio Cutie.

A Glimpse into the “Gantz” Universe

The original “Gantz” manga, created by Hiroya Oku, ran from 2000 to 2013. It tells the story of Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, who die in a train accident and are subsequently resurrected by the Gantz sphere to participate in a deadly game. Along with other recently deceased individuals, they are forced to hunt down and kill aliens using futuristic weapons and equipment.

The series is known for its intense action, graphic violence, complex characters, and exploration of themes such as morality, death, and the meaning of life. “Gantz” has spawned a multimedia franchise, including:

  • A television anime series
  • A CG anime film (Gantz: O)
  • Two live-action Japanese films
  • Multiple spinoff manga

The “Gantz G” Omnibus is available for pre-order from various retailers, including:
