Toei Animation has officially announced the production of a brand-new, original theatrical film for the popular “Girls Band Cry” anime series. The announcement, accompanied by a teaser visual, confirms that this new movie will feature a completely new story, expanding the universe beyond the recently concluded television series.

While details regarding the new film’s plot, staff, and release date are yet to be revealed, the news has generated significant excitement among fans. This new project comes as the “Girls Band Cry” multimedia franchise continues to expand, following its successful anime run and ahead of two upcoming compilation films.

Upcoming “Girls Band Cry” Compilation Films

Before the release of this newly announced original film, fans can look forward to two compilation movies that revisit the events of the anime series. The first compilation film, titled “Seishun Kyо̄sо̄kyoku” (Youth Rhapsody), is slated to premiere on October 3, 2025. The second compilation film, “Naa, Mirai.” (Hey, Future.), will follow shortly after, with a scheduled release date of November 14, 2025. These compilation films will offer a condensed theatrical experience of the television series.

The Story of “Girls Band Cry”

The original “Girls Band Cry” anime television series, produced by Toei Animation, captivated audiences during its 13-episode run from April to June 2024. The series centers on Nina Iseri, a high school dropout who relocates to Tokyo with the aim of proving her independence and pursuing her dreams. After a chance encounter with former band member Momoka Kawaragi, Nina is inspired to form her own band.

Alongside fellow members Subaru Awa, Tomo Ebizuka, and Rupa, the group, named Togenashi Togeari, navigates personal struggles and challenges within the music scene, using their raw emotions and shared love for music as an outlet. The narrative explores themes of self-discovery, resilience, and the power of camaraderie in overcoming life’s disappointments.

Production Team and Cast

The anime series was directed by Kazuo Sakai, with Jukki Hanada handling the series composition and screenplays. Nari Teshima designed the characters, while Kenji Tamai composed the music. It is anticipated that much of the core staff will return for the compilation films and potentially for the newly announced original movie.

The main voice cast includes Rina as Nina Iseri, Yuri as Momoka Kawaragi, Mirei as Subaru Awa, Natsu as Tomo Ebizuka, and Syuri as Rupa.

Expanding Multimedia Project

“Girls Band Cry” is part of a larger multimedia initiative that began in 2023, focusing heavily on music. In addition to the anime and upcoming films, a mobile game is currently in development. Furthermore, an action-platformer Windows game titled Momowasho, inspired by the anime, is scheduled for release on September 28, 2025.

Fans eagerly await further announcements regarding the highly anticipated original film, which promises to delve deeper into the compelling world of “Girls Band Cry.”
