GKIDS has announced that it will screen the highly anticipated anime film 100 Meters (also known as Hyakuemu) across North American theaters on October 12-14, 2025, with an exclusive opening in Los Angeles on October 10. The screenings will feature both the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English dubbed version.

North American Rollout and Special Los Angeles Engagement

The nationwide theatrical run for 100 Meters is set for October 12-14, offering fans across the continent an opportunity to experience the sports drama. Ahead of this broader release, a special premiere screening will take place in Los Angeles on October 10. GKIDS, known for distributing critically acclaimed animated films, is handling the North American release, marking their second collaboration with director Kenji Iwaisawa.

Delving into the Story of ‘100 Meters’

Based on Uoto’s manga series, 100 Meters centers on the intense rivalry between two track athletes, Togashi and Komiya. Togashi is introduced as a naturally gifted runner who effortlessly excels in 100-meter races from a young age. His path intersects in sixth grade with Komiya, a determined transfer student who lacks natural talent but possesses an unyielding spirit. Togashi’s influence ignites in Komiya a singular purpose: to win at all costs. Years later, their paths cross again as formidable rivals on the track, where their true selves and the depth of their long-standing competition are revealed.

Japanese Premiere and Production Team

The film is set to premiere in Japan on September 19, 2025, a month before its North American debut. 100 Meters is directed by Kenji Iwaisawa, acclaimed for his work on ON-GAKU: Our Sound. The animation is handled by Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain, with production credits to Pony Canyon, TBS TV, and ASMIK Ace. Yasuyuki Mutō, known for his work on Tokyo Revengers, penned the script, while Keisuke Kojima served as character designer and chief animation director. The film’s score is composed by Hiroaki Tsutsumi.

Voice Cast and Musical Contribution

The Japanese voice cast features Tori Matsuzaka as the gifted runner Togashi and Shōta Sometani as his determined rival, Komiya. Other notable cast members include Kōki Uchiyama as Saizu, Kenjirō Tsuda as Kaidō, Rie Takahashi as Asakusa, and Atsumi Tanezaki and Aoi Yūki portraying younger versions of Togashi and Komiya, respectively. The film’s theme song, titled “Rashisa,” is performed by the popular band Official HiGE DANdism.

International Recognition

Prior to its official release, 100 Meters made its world premiere at the prestigious Annecy International Film Festival in June 2025, where it was featured as part of the festival’s Work in Progress lineup. GKIDS has previously distributed Iwaisawa’s ON-GAKU: Our Sound in North America, which also garnered critical acclaim, including multiple award nominations.
