HIDIVE, the anime streaming service, has announced that it will be streaming the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Motoo Nakanishi’s Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho novel series. The premiere is scheduled for March 31, 2025, with a one-hour special first episode.

What to Expect: Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho

Premiere Date and Schedule

The anime will debut on HIDIVE with an hour-long special episode on March 31, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. EDT. Following the debut, new 30-minute episodes will be released every Monday at 11:00 a.m. EDT. The series is set to air for two consecutive cours (quarters of a year).

Production Delay

The anime was originally slated for a July 2024 premiere, with a one-hour special in June of the same year, but faced delays due to production issues.

Storyline

Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho is a historical action series set in Japan’s Edo period. The story revolves around Jinta, a young man who serves as the guardian of a shrine maiden named Itsukihime in the remote mountain village of Kadono. Despite being an outsider, Jinta is tasked with defeating a demon in the forest. During his quest, he encounters a mysterious demon who speaks of a distant future where a Demon God threatens humanity. This encounter sets Jinta on a journey that spans 170 years, from the Edo period to the Heisei era, as he travels through time seeking the meaning behind wielding his sword.

Seven Seas Entertainment, which is releasing the light novel and manga versions in English, describes the story as follows: “During the Edo period, a young man named Jinta protects the town and the Itsukihime. When he confronts a strange demon in the nearby forest, it tells him that in the distant future a Demon God will threaten all people, everywhere, and it claims that the Demon God’s rise to power springs from this very time and place, in the village of Kadono. So begins the centuries-spanning journey of a man tainted by demons, hunting through time to seek justice for what he’s lost and to find a reason to keep on fighting.”
