Storyline
Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho is a historical action series set in Japan’s Edo period. The story revolves around Jinta, a young man who serves as the guardian of a shrine maiden named Itsukihime in the remote mountain village of Kadono. Despite being an outsider, Jinta is tasked with defeating a demon in the forest. During his quest, he encounters a mysterious demon who speaks of a distant future where a Demon God threatens humanity. This encounter sets Jinta on a journey that spans 170 years, from the Edo period to the Heisei era, as he travels through time seeking the meaning behind wielding his sword.
Seven Seas Entertainment, which is releasing the light novel and manga versions in English, describes the story as follows: “During the Edo period, a young man named Jinta protects the town and the Itsukihime. When he confronts a strange demon in the nearby forest, it tells him that in the distant future a Demon God will threaten all people, everywhere, and it claims that the Demon God’s rise to power springs from this very time and place, in the village of Kadono. So begins the centuries-spanning journey of a man tainted by demons, hunting through time to seek justice for what he’s lost and to find a reason to keep on fighting.”
