HIDIVE, the prominent anime streaming service, is set to debut the English dub for the highly anticipated slice-of-life drama, Flower and Asura, on July 16, 2025. This premiere marks the beginning of HIDIVE’s “Summer of Dubs” initiative, promising a fresh lineup of English-dubbed content throughout the season.
A New Voice for a Critically Acclaimed Series
The Flower and Asura anime, known in Japan as Hana wa Saku, Shura no Gotoku, originally premiered in January 2025 and quickly garnered attention for its engaging narrative and distinctive animation by Studio Bind. The series has been streaming exclusively on HIDIVE in its original Japanese with subtitles since its initial broadcast. The upcoming English dub will allow a wider audience to experience the story of Hana Haruyama and the Tonakishima Broadcasting Club.
The Premise of Flower and Asura
Flower and Asura is a coming-of-age story that centers on Hana Haruyama, a high school student residing on the small, picturesque island of Tonakishima, with a population of only 600. Hana possesses an exceptional talent for reciting literature, a pastime she cherishes through regular reading sessions for the island’s children. Her unique ability to captivate and draw people into her recitations catches the attention of Mizuki Usurai, the president of the school’s Broadcasting Club.
Mizuki recognizes Hana’s profound power to connect with an audience through her voice and extends an invitation for her to join the Broadcasting Club. As Hana embarks on this new journey within the club, she begins to experience a series of “firsts” alongside her fellow members, discovering a deeper love for reading and potentially altering the trajectory of her life. The series is based on the manga written by Ayano Takeda, known for Sound! Euphonium, and illustrated by Musshu.
HIDIVE’s “Summer of Dubs” Lineup
Flower and Asura leads a robust schedule of English dub premieres from HIDIVE this summer. Following its July 16 debut, the “Summer of Dubs” will continue into August with the English-dubbed premieres of the supernatural romance drama Call of the Night Season 2 and the coming-of-age music drama Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty. In September, HIDIVE plans to release the second cour of the supernatural historical fantasy series Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho.
In addition to these new premieres, HIDIVE will maintain its commitment to ongoing weekly English-dubbed episodes for current series, including 2.5 Dimensional Seduction, I’m Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!?, and the first cour of Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho. This strategic rollout aims to provide fans with a consistent flow of high-quality dubbed anime content throughout the summer and into early fall.
