Voice actress Hiroko Kiso has been officially cast in the new television anime adaptation of Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube, taking on the role of the urban legend monster Teke Teke. The announcement was made on Thursday, July 24, revealing that the character will make her appearance in the anime’s sixth episode on August 6.
New Adaptation Revitalizes Classic Horror Manga
The Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube anime is a fresh adaptation of Takeshi Okano and Shō Makura’s popular manga series. The original manga, a blend of action, comedy horror, and dark fantasy, was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1993 to 1999. It follows Meisuke Nueno, known as Nube, a grade-school teacher who uses his “Demon’s Hand”—strength borrowed from a sealed demon—to protect his students from supernatural threats and urban legends.
The new TV anime debuted on July 2 with a one-hour broadcast. Ryotaro Okiayu, who voiced the titular character Nube in the original 1996 TV anime series, reprises his role in this reboot.
Hiroko Kiso’s Role: Teke Teke
Kiso’s character, Teke Teke, is a well-known figure in Japanese urban legends. This spectral entity is often described as a girl who was cut in half by a train and now pursues victims, dragging herself along with her hands, making a “teke teke” sound. Her inclusion signals the anime’s continued exploration of various Japanese folklore and supernatural tales, a hallmark of the Jigoku Sensei Nube series.
Expanding the Cast of the Supernatural School Story
The casting of Hiroko Kiso is part of the ongoing announcements for the new Jigoku Sensei Nube anime, which aims to bring the classic supernatural school adventures to a new generation. The production has been steadily revealing its voice cast, combining returning veterans with new talent to bring the diverse array of human and yokai characters to life. Fans eagerly anticipate how Kiso’s portrayal will add to the eerie and thrilling atmosphere of the series as Teke Teke makes her debut in the upcoming episode.
