Ichiha Akizuki’s manga adaptation of Mai Mochizuki and Siz Yamauchi’s popular Holmes of Kyoto (Kyōto Teramachi Sanjō no Holmes) novel series has officially concluded, with its final epilogue chapter published on Futabasha’s Web Action manga website on Tuesday.

A Journey Through Kyoto’s Antique Mysteries Ends

The “light, antique mystery” series, renowned for its captivating blend of perplexing cases and charming setting in Kyoto’s Teramachi Sanjō shopping district, has reached its narrative conclusion in manga form. The story follows high school student Aoi Mashiro, who unexpectedly begins working part-time at an antique shop and partners with Kiyotaka Yagashira, the owner’s son, known as the “Holmes at Teramachi Sanjō” for his sharp deductive skills. Together, they solve various intriguing cases brought by clients.

The manga, illustrated by Ichiha Akizuki, first launched in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine in October 2017. After Monthly Action ceased publication, the series transitioned to the Web Action platform in February 2024, where it continued until its recent finale. Futabasha released the manga’s 14th compiled book volume on January 9.

Broader Franchise Continues

While the manga adaptation has concluded, the Holmes of Kyoto franchise originated as a novel series written by Mai Mochizuki with illustrations by Siz Yamauchi. The novel series began in April 2016 and remains ongoing, with its 22nd volume having debuted on May 14.

The popularity of the series also led to an anime television adaptation, which premiered in July 2018. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. The manga’s conclusion marks a significant milestone for this specific adaptation, but the broader narrative of the antique mysteries in Kyoto continues through the original light novels.
