Hulu has announced it will begin streaming a new anime adaptation of Tsukasa Hōjō’s classic manga series, “Cat’s Eye,” on September 26. The series will be available on both Hulu and through Hulu on Disney+, with a new trailer and key art revealed on Tuesday. This latest iteration will reimagine the adventures of the iconic art-thieving Kisugi Sisters.

The Return of the Kisugi Sisters

The “Cat’s Eye” anime centers on the three Kisugi sisters—Hitomi, Rui, and Ai—who, by day, run a quaint café. By night, however, they transform into notorious art thieves, meticulously executing high-stakes heists to recover their father’s stolen art collection. Their double lives are further complicated by Detective Toshio Utsumi, Hitomi’s boyfriend, who is tasked with catching the very thieves he unknowingly shares his life with.

The original “Cat’s Eye” manga ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1981 to 1985 and inspired two television anime seasons from 1983 to 1985. This new 12-part series aims to stay true to the original manga while also paying homage to the beloved 1980s anime.

Key Details and Production Team

The new “Cat’s Eye” anime is produced by LIDEN FILMS, known for works like Rurouni Kenshin (2023) and Berserk. Yoshifumi Sueda, who directed High School DxD Hero and Z/X Code reunion, is at the helm. Hayashi Mori, the scriptwriter for Sand Land: The Series and Cells at Work! Code Black, is handling the screenplay. Character designs and chief animation direction are by Yosuke Yabumoto, while Yuki Hayashi, acclaimed for his work on Haikyu!! and My Hero Academia, is composing the music.

The Japanese voice cast features:

  • Mikako Komatsu as Hitomi Kisugi
  • Ami Koshimizu as Rui Kisugi
  • Yumiri Hanamori as Ai Kisugi
  • Takuya Satō as Toshio Utsumi
  • Katsuyuki Konishi as Masato Kamiya
  • Yōko Hikasa as Mitsuko Asatani

A special highlight for fans of the original series will be Japanese pop sensation Ado performing a cover of Anri’s “Cat’s Eye,” the iconic opening theme song from the 1983 television anime.

Release Schedule and International Availability

The first six episodes of the new “Cat’s Eye” anime will premiere weekly between September 26 and October 31 in Disney+’s Star brand in Japan. The remaining six episodes are slated to stream weekly from December 26, 2025, to January 30, 2026. Hulu will offer the series to its subscribers in the US, with Disney+ handling international distribution.

Previous Adaptations and Crossovers

The “Cat’s Eye” franchise has seen several adaptations and crossovers over the years. In January 2023, a cel-shaded CG crossover anime film, Lupin the 3rd vs. Cat’s Eye, debuted worldwide exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. This film celebrated both the 50th anniversary of the Lupin the 3rd anime and the 40th anniversary of Cat’s Eye. There was also a live-action French series that premiered in late 2024, which is also available on Amazon Prime Video internationally. Abrams ComicArts’ Kana imprint has also licensed the manga for an omnibus edition with new English translations, beginning release on September 9.
