The popular light novel series, Potion-danomi de Ikinobimasu!, officially translated as I Shall Survive Using Potions!, received a television anime adaptation that premiered in October 2023. The series aired as part of the “Animazing!!!” programming block on ABC TV and TV Asahi’s 24-affiliate network. Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside of Asia.
What is I Shall Survive Using Potions! About?
The story follows Kaoru Nagase, a 22-year-old office worker who unexpectedly loses her life due to a mistake made by a supervisor overseeing Earth. As compensation, Kaoru is offered reincarnation into a less culturally advanced world. However, Kaoru, not one to accept her fate passively, makes several demands to ensure her survival and stability in this new world.
Kaoru’s Demands and New Powers
Kaoru’s demands include the ability to create potions with any desired effect at any time, a magical Item Box with infinite storage, the power to understand and speak all languages, and the return of her body to its fifteen-year-old self. Armed with these “cheater” abilities and knowledge from her previous life, Kaoru embarks on a journey to establish a stable and worry-free life in her new medieval surroundings.

Key Staff
Nobuaki Nakanishi directed the anime, with Takayo Ikami overseeing the series scripts. Chisato Kikunaga adapted Sukima’s original character designs for animation, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi composed the music.
Voice Cast
The main Japanese voice cast includes Rin Kusumi as Kaoru. Other notable cast members are Tomoyo Takayanagi as Francette, Moeka Koizumi as Emile, Haruki Iwata as Belle, Natsuki Kitagawa as Layette, and Nao Toyama as Celestine.
For the English dub, Crunchyroll announced Katie Wetch as the voice of Kaoru. The English cast also features Monét Lerner as Celes, Marianne Bray as Francette, and Aaron Dismuke as the Administrator. Shawn Gann directed the English dub.
Manga and Light Novel Background
The I Shall Survive Using Potions! series originated as a light novel written by FUNA. Kodansha began publishing the novels in print with illustrations by Sukima in June 2017. As of December 2023, ten volumes of the light novel series have been released.
A manga adaptation, illustrated by Hibiki Kokonoe, was serialized on Kodansha’s Suiyōbi no Sirius online manga section from June 2017 to November 2021, with nine collected volumes. A sequel manga by Futsū Onshin began serialization in August 2022. J-Novel Club has licensed both the light novels and the manga for English publication. A spinoff manga titled Potion-danomi de Ikinobimasu! Hanano to Lotte no Futari Tabi (I Shall Survive Using Potions! Hanano and Lotte’s Journey) by Sukima also launched in January 2023.
