Auri Hirao’s popular manga series, If My Favorite Pop Idol Made it to the Budokan, I Would Die (Oshi ga Budōkan Ittekuretara Shinu), is set to conclude with its upcoming chapter. The announcement was made on Thursday, November 6, 2025, within the 65th chapter of the manga, signaling the impending end of the beloved idol fan comedy-drama.
A Decade of Idol Fandom: The Manga’s Run and Impact
The series, which has captivated readers with its unique blend of humor and heartfelt dedication to idol culture, first launched in Tokuma Shoten’s Monthly Comic Ryū magazine in June 2015. Over its decade-long run, Oshi ga Budōkan Ittekuretara Shinu has garnered a significant following, chronicling the passionate, if sometimes extreme, fandom of Eripiyo for Maina Ichii, a member of the indie idol group Cham Jam. Eripiyo’s unwavering support, despite Maina being the least popular member of her group, forms the core of the story.
The manga’s popularity extended beyond its print format, leading to several adaptations. In January 2020, it inspired a television anime series, which was streamed by Funimation with an English dub. A live-action film adaptation followed in May 2023, further expanding the franchise’s reach. Looking ahead, the series is also set to inspire a stage play, scheduled to begin its run in February 2026 in Aichi Prefecture and Tokyo.
Compiled Volumes and English Release
For fans looking to collect the complete story, Tokuma Shoten released the 11th compiled book volume of the manga in December 2024. The 12th and likely final volume is slated for release on December 12, 2025. Tokyopop has been responsible for releasing the manga in English, making the heartwarming and hilarious journey of Eripiyo accessible to a global audience. The series has achieved over one million cumulative copies in circulation, a testament to its widespread appeal.
