The upcoming anime adaptation of Fuyu Azuma’s popular web manga, “Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota” (Kao ni Denai Kashiwada-san to Kao ni Deru Ōta-kun), has announced two new cast members: Yumiri Hanamori and Mayu Mineda. The romantic comedy series is set to premiere in October 2025.

Overview of the “Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota” Anime
The “Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota” anime is based on Fuyu Azuma’s manga, which was serialized on Niconico Seiga’s Dra Dra Sharp# website from June 2018 to June 2023. The series centers on the unique dynamic between Kashiwada, a girl whose emotions never show on her face, and Oota, a boy whose emotions are always plainly visible. Oota frequently tries to surprise Kashiwada, often without success, while Kashiwada finds joy in observing Oota’s expressive reactions. Despite their contrasting personalities, they share a deep care for each other, creating a heartwarming middle school love comedy.

The anime is being produced by Studio Polon. Tomohiro Kamitani is directing the series, with Michiko Yokote handling the series composition. Naoto Nakamura serves as both character designer and chief animation director. The musical score is being composed by Yukari Hashimoto and Tetsuya Shitara.

Release Date and Streaming
The anime television series is slated to premiere on October 4, 2025, on Tokyo MX and other networks. Crunchyroll will stream the series starting on the same day. An advance world premiere screening of the first episode was held at Anime Expo on July 3, 2025.
The opening theme song, “Hyakumensō” (Funny Faces), is performed by Hashimero, while the ending theme song, “Amanojaku Hero” (Contradiction-Filled Hero), is performed by Sangatsu no Phantasia. The original manga is available in English through BookWalker Global and MangaPlaza.
