Japanese television viewers tuned into a familiar lineup of animated classics and popular current series during the week of June 16-22, with long-running favorites continuing to dominate the ratings. The rankings are based on an estimate of the percentage of the population watching a given program in Japan’s Kanto region, as compiled by Video Research. These ratings do not account for recorded viewings.
Top-Ranked Animated Programs
Leading the week’s animated television programs was Sazae-san, which aired on Fuji TV on Sunday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m., securing an average household rating of 6.4%. Following closely was Detective Conan, broadcast on NTV on Saturday, June 21, at 6:00 p.m., with a 4.8% rating. Chibi Maruko-chan, also from Fuji TV and airing on Sunday, June 22, at 6:00 p.m., earned a 4.4% rating.
Other Noteworthy Entries
Further down the list, a combined entry of the variety show Ueda to Onna ga DEEP ni Hoeru Yoru and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX on NTV on Tuesday, June 17, at 11:59 p.m., registered a 3.2% rating. Yaiba: Samurai Legend, shown on NTV on Saturday, June 21, at 5:30 p.m., garnered 2.9%.
Popular children’s series also made their mark, with You and Idol Precure♪ on TV Asahi (Sunday, June 22, 8:30 a.m.) at 2.7%, and the finale of The Dinner Table Detective on Fuji TV (Friday, June 20, 11:30 p.m.) also at 2.7%. Both Doraemon (TV Asahi, Saturday, June 21, 5:00 p.m.) and Crayon Shin-chan (TV Asahi, Saturday, June 21, 4:30 p.m.) secured a 2.5% rating. Rounding out the top animated programs were Your Forma (TV Asahi, Wednesday, June 18, 11:45 p.m.) and One Piece (Fuji TV, Sunday, June 22, 11:15 p.m.), both with 2.4%. Finally, Oshiri Tantei on NHK-E (Thursday, June 19, 7:00 p.m.) had a 1.5% rating.
