Tokyo, Japan – Gege Akutami’s acclaimed dark fantasy manga series, Jujutsu Kaisen, has officially surpassed 150 million copies in circulation worldwide, a remarkable milestone that includes both digital editions and related novels, as well as the prequel Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The franchise has shown extraordinary growth, adding an impressive 50 million copies to its circulation in just one year and three months since it reached the 100 million mark on September 30, 2024, the same day the main manga’s serialization concluded in Weekly Shōnen Jump. Rapid Ascent and Global Recognition
Jujutsu Kaisen has enjoyed a meteoric rise since its debut in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump on March 5, 2018. The series, which follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he navigates a world of curses and jujutsu sorcerers after becoming the host to a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, quickly captivated audiences with its unique blend of adventure, dark fantasy, and supernatural elements.
Its impressive sales trajectory includes:

- Over 60 million copies in circulation by December 2021.
- Over 100 million copies in circulation by September 2024.
- Over 150 million copies in circulation by December 2025.
This rapid growth has allowed Jujutsu Kaisen to join the ranks of manga titans like One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Demon Slayer, establishing itself as a modern classic.
The Anime’s Catalytic Effect
A significant factor in the manga’s explosive popularity and continued sales success has been its critically acclaimed anime adaptation, produced by studio MAPPA. The first season aired from October 2020 to March 2021, introducing millions of new fans to Gege Akutami’s intricate world and compelling characters.
Film and Continued Anime Success
The theatrical film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, released in December 2021, was a massive worldwide hit, earning 26.5 billion yen at the global box office. The second anime season, which aired from July to December 2023, further fueled fan engagement and manga sales.
Anticipation remains high for the upcoming third season, which will adapt the “Culling Game” arc and is scheduled to premiere in January 2026. This continuous stream of high-quality anime content ensures the franchise remains at the forefront of global pop culture, driving both new and existing fans to explore the original manga.
Creator’s Vision and Spin-off Content
Manga artist Gege Akutami, who stated that influences like Neon Genesis Evangelion and horror films shaped the series, concluded the main Jujutsu Kaisen manga serialization in September 2024 with 30 tankōbon volumes. Akutami has expressed deep gratitude to readers and praised the anime production staff for their outstanding creative sensibilities.
Despite the main series’ conclusion, the Jujutsu Kaisen universe continues to expand. A new short-term spin-off manga series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, co-created by Akutami and Yūji Iwasaki, began serialization in September 2025, with its first volume set for release on January 5, 2026. This sequel is centered on the grandchildren of Maki and Yuta, further exploring the rich lore established in the main series.
The sustained enthusiasm for Jujutsu Kaisen underscores the power of a compelling narrative, dynamic characters like Satoru Gojo and Yuji Itadori, and a strong multimedia strategy in building a global entertainment phenomenon.
