Kodansha’s K Manga service has announced the addition of Tomoko Ninomiya’s manga, Nanatsu-ya: Shinobu and Her Jewelry Box (Nanatsuya Shinobu no Hōsekibako), to its English-language lineup. The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
About Nanatsu-ya: Shinobu and Her Jewelry Box
The manga, created by Tomoko Ninomiya, is a comedic mystery set within the world of jewelry. It follows the story of Shinobu, a second-year high school student who helps run Kurata-ya, a long-established pawn shop in a bustling central Tokyo neighborhood. Shinobu possesses a unique talent: the ability to perceive the “aura” emanating from gemstones.
Adding to the narrative’s intrigue, Shinobu has an arranged fiancé, Akisada Kitagami. He was taken in by Kurata-ya at a young age and now works as a salesman for a high-end jewelry brand, though he harbors several secrets. The series delves into human-centric episodes centered around Shinobu and Akisada.
Publication History and Author
Tomoko Ninomiya launched Nanatsu-ya: Shinobu and Her Jewelry Box in Kodansha’s Kiss magazine in November 2013. As of May 13, 2025, Kodansha has published 24 compiled book volumes of the manga in Japan. The series has experienced several hiatuses between 2018 and 2019 due to the author’s health.
Ninomiya is widely recognized for her previous work, Nodame Cantabile, which ran from 2001 to 2009 and received the 2004 Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo manga. Nodame Cantabile has been adapted into three television anime series, as well as live-action drama and film adaptations. Del Rey initially published 16 volumes of Nodame Cantabile in North America before ceasing manga releases, with Kodansha USA Publishing later releasing all 25 volumes digitally in English.
