Kodansha’s K Manga digital service has announced the addition of four new manga titles to its English-language catalog: Shūichi Shigeno’s Subaru and Subaru, Ryo Sumiyoshi’s Si Land, Masaaki Nakayama’s The Silent Forest, and Shūzō Oshimi’s one-shot ME AND BOB DYLAN (AND MY FATHER). These new additions became available on August 25, 2025, broadening the platform’s diverse offerings for English-speaking readers.
The release of these titles coincides with the launch of a special edition U.S. Young Magazine issue, which commemorates the magazine’s 45th anniversary. This special issue, featuring over 1,044 pages of content, debuted at Anime NYC 2025 and is available for free on platforms like Azuki and K Manga.
Diving into the New Additions
The newly added manga span a variety of genres, promising something for different tastes within the digital manga community.
Subaru and Subaru
From the legendary creator Shūichi Shigeno, known for seminal street racing manga such as Initial D and MF Ghost, comes Subaru and Subaru. This ongoing series introduces two new drivers, Subaru Sato from Gunma Prefecture and Subaru Kudo from Kanagawa, as they enter Japan’s popular MFG street racing circuit. The narrative aims to weave a new street racing legend, blending elements from Shigeno’s previous works and expanding his iconic motorsport universe. The initial chapter focuses more on character setup, featuring a Subaru BRZ, a vehicle model that has appeared in Shigeno’s shared universe before.
Si Land
Ryo Sumiyoshi’s Si Land transports readers to an epic fantasy adventure on the high seas. The story is set in a world exclusively populated by dogs and cats, where dogs have established a kingdom on the main continent, while cats live scattered across the sea, frequently raiding dog territories. This long-standing animosity forms the backdrop for the journey of Jean, a young dog born at sea and raised by a cat. Jean’s dream is to find a permanent home where his unique family—his mother Rosa and adoptive father Azul—can live together peacefully. The manga is serialized in Comic Days.
The Silent Forest
Horror manga master Masaaki Nakayama, celebrated for works like Fuan no Tane and PTSD Radio, returns with The Silent Forest. This new tale of horror is set in the Edo period, promising a fresh installment of Nakayama’s distinctive and unsettling storytelling.
ME AND BOB DYLAN (AND MY FATHER)
Shūzō Oshimi, the acclaimed author of The Flowers of Evil and Blood on the Tracks, offers a poignant one-shot titled ME AND BOB DYLAN (AND MY FATHER). This short memoir explores Oshimi’s life with his father and their shared connection to the iconic musician Bob Dylan.
K Manga’s Role in Digital Manga Distribution
K Manga, launched by Kodansha Ltd. in May 2023, is dedicated to bringing the latest English-language manga chapters to U.S. readers, often simultaneously with their Japanese release. The platform serves as Kodansha’s official serialization platform, aiming to increase accessibility for fans who have embraced the medium. With approximately 400 titles available at launch, including 70 ongoing series, K Manga offers a wide array of genres such such as action, thriller, isekai, romance, and fantasy.
The recent additions are part of a broader initiative, as the special edition Young Magazine includes 19 new manga titles, with 16 of them eligible for a fan vote. The most popular titles chosen by fan votes will continue to be serialized in future editions of Young Magazine and on K Manga. This fan engagement aspect further solidifies K Manga’s commitment to delivering content that resonates with its audience.
