Shueisha’s Shonen Jump website has announced that The God of Time (Jikan no Kami-sama), the manga by Kanae Nakanishi and Tsukasa Furokawa, will conclude with its second compiled book volume. The first volume is set to be released on September 4, with the second following shortly after on October 3. MANGA Plus, Shueisha’s digital service, publishes the manga in English.
A Brief Run for a New Series
The God of Time manga only recently launched on May 22, 2025. This means the series will have a relatively short run, concluding just over four months after its debut. The quick conclusion to a new series, especially one from a prominent publisher like Shueisha, can sometimes signal a planned short-form narrative or a shift in creative direction.
The Creators Behind The God of Time
Kanae Nakanishi: The Storyteller
Kanae Nakanishi is known for her previous work as the author of Shojo Null. Shojo Null was serialized on the Shonen Jump+ platform from August 2023 to September 2024, and was also available in English through MANGA Plus and licensed by VIZ Media. Nakanishi’s storytelling in The God of Time centers on a girl named Yuki who discovers a mysterious watch capable of stopping time. She uses this ability to save a boy named Hiroki, leading to a suspenseful romance in a world where time has seemingly frozen. This premise suggests a continuation of Nakanishi’s thematic interests in supernatural elements and interpersonal drama, as seen in her previous works.
Tsukasa Furokawa: The Artist
Tsukasa Furokawa is the artist for The God of Time. Furokawa has also contributed art to other manga, including Osananajimi wo Erabenai! Furokawa’s art style in The God of Time complements Nakanishi’s narrative, bringing to life the “unforgettable summer” set in a world where time has stopped.
The Narrative of The God of Time
The series is described as an “unprecedented suspenseful romance” set in a world where time has come to a standstill. The core of the story revolves around Yuki and Hiroki, bound by the secret of a time-stopping watch. While specific plot details beyond the initial premise are limited, the genre tags of drama, romance, school life, shonen, and supernatural suggest a blend of character-driven storytelling with fantastical elements. The concept of time manipulation often introduces complex narrative possibilities, including altering fate, exploring consequences, and the emotional toll such power can take on individuals.
