The Story of Kaya-chan
“Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary” centers on Kaya-chan, a seemingly ordinary problem child in kindergarten. Unbeknownst to the adults, Kaya-chan possesses a hidden ability to see and vanquish evil spirits with a powerful punch. Her secret is discovered by Chie-sensei, who is tasked with supervising the mischievous kindergartner. The story follows Kaya-chan as she navigates kindergarten life, protects those around her from supernatural threats, and often gets into trouble while trying to help. Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the manga in English and describes the series as a horror manga set in an unlikely place, inviting readers to discover if they are braver than a kindergartner.
The original manga by Yuritaro began serialization on Shinchosha’s Kurage Bunch website in April 2022. Seven Seas Entertainment released the first English volume of the manga in April 2025. The manga’s seventh volume shipped in June 2025.
