The official website for the upcoming anime adaptation of Yuritaro’s “Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary” (Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai) manga has released its second promotional video, revealing additional cast members, key production staff, and theme song artists. The highly anticipated horror-action series is slated to premiere on January 11, 2026.
The new revelations offer a deeper look into the world of Kaya-chan, a seemingly ordinary kindergartner with an extraordinary ability to see and vanquish evil spirits.
Expanded Cast Bringing Characters to Life
The latest announcement introduces several new voice actors joining the kindergarten’s supernatural escapades. Yuki Kaji, known for his role as Kenma in Haikyuu!!, will voice Namu. Akira-sensei will be portrayed by Azusa Tadokoro, also known as Eri in CITY THE ANIMATION, while Shiori Izawa, the voice of Nanachi in Made in Abyss, will take on the role of Chihiro-sensei.
These new additions join the previously announced main cast, including Azusa Tachibana as the titular Kaya-chan and Maaya Uchida as Chie-sensei, the teacher who uncovers Kaya-chan’s secret abilities.

A Glimpse into the Story
Based on Yuritaro’s manga, “Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary” introduces Kaya-chan, a kindergarten problem child whose troublesome actions are often a result of her hidden power: the ability to see and defeat malevolent spirits with a single punch. The narrative truly begins when Chie-sensei is assigned to Kaya-chan’s class and quickly discovers the five-year-old’s secret.
The manga series, which began serialization on Shinchosha’s Kurage Bunch website in April 2022, has been licensed for English publication by Seven Seas Entertainment. Seven Seas Entertainment describes the story as a horror manga that explores the unexpected adventures of a brave kindergartner, posing the question, “Are you braver than a kindergartner?”
