The popular manga series Kindergarten Wars is gearing up for its final arc, but fans will have to wait a bit longer to see how the story unfolds. Creator You Chiba has announced an eight-week hiatus due to health concerns, specifically back pain, before launching into the concluding “America Arc.”
A Break for Recovery Before the Final Battle
After reaching chapter 102, You Chiba made the difficult decision to pause the Kindergarten Wars serialization. In a message to fans shared on X (formerly Twitter) and via MANGA Plus, Chiba apologized for the delay, explaining that she has been struggling with back pain since the end of 2024. This health issue has impacted her ability to meet the demanding weekly deadlines of manga creation.
“Since the end of the year, I’ve been experiencing back pain… As a result, I have decided to take a longer break this time. I sincerely apologize to all the readers who have been looking forward to the series,” Chiba stated.
The break is scheduled to last until March 27, 2025. However, Chiba has cautioned that this date could be subject to change depending on her recovery progress.
The ‘America Arc’ to Mark the Series Finale
Upon its return, Kindergarten Wars will immediately dive into its final storyline, the “America Arc.” The preceding chapter 102 teased this new direction, showing the main characters preparing to travel to New York City.
Despite the bittersweet news of the approaching conclusion, Chiba has assured fans that there’s still plenty of story left to tell. She has asked readers to look forward to the “long final battle” that awaits.
A Rising Star in the Manga World
Kindergarten Wars, written and illustrated by You Chiba, debuted on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ app and website on September 15, 2022. The series gained popularity quickly and, in March 2023, was promoted from an “independent manga” in Jump+’s Rookies program to a full-fledged series.
The manga has garnered significant attention both in Japan and internationally. Kindergarten Wars was the best-selling new manga in Japan in 2023 and the most sold new manga in France for 2024. As of January 2025, the collected chapters have been compiled into 13 tankōbon volumes. English-speaking fans can follow the series on Shueisha’s Manga Plus platform.
Storyline and Key Characters
Kindergarten Wars is a romantic action comedy that centers around Rita, a skilled yet somewhat aloof assassin. His mission is to eliminate a specific target: the principal of a certain kindergarten. The series blends high-stakes action with heartwarming and humorous moments as Rita navigates his dangerous profession while forming unexpected bonds with the kindergarteners. Other key characters include the teachers and staff of the kindergarten, each with their unique personalities and quirks, who add to the chaotic yet charming atmosphere of the story.
Fans Eagerly Await the Final Chapter
The announcement of the hiatus and final arc has generated a buzz within the manga community. Fans have expressed their support for You Chiba’s decision to prioritize her health and are eagerly anticipating the continuation of the story. Many are also hopeful for a future anime adaptation of Kindergarten Wars, which could further boost its popularity.
The series’ blend of action, comedy, and heartwarming relationships has resonated with a wide audience, and the “America Arc” promises to deliver a thrilling conclusion to Rita’s unconventional journey.
