The “Kindergarten Wars -LUKE-” spinoff manga has officially concluded, while the main “Kindergarten Wars” manga is set to resume its serialization on August 14. This news follows a period of hiatus for the main series, which had been on break since June 19.
The Conclusion of “-LUKE-” and its Significance
The “-LUKE-” spinoff, focusing on the character Luke, was a six-chapter, 180-page story that began its serialization in November. Its conclusion paves the way for the return of the primary narrative of “Kindergarten Wars.”
“Kindergarten Wars” Returns to its Final Arc
The main “Kindergarten Wars” manga, penned and illustrated by You Chiba, will continue its “America” arc, which was previously announced as its final arc. The series went on a two-month hiatus earlier this year, with its return initially scheduled for March 27. This break was attributed to the author experiencing back pain.
A Look Back at “Kindergarten Wars”
“Kindergarten Wars” (Japanese: Yōchien Wars) began its serialization on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ app and website in September 2022. It quickly gained popularity, transitioning from Jump+’s Rookies program to a full-fledged series in March 2023. The manga is an action-romantic comedy set in “Kindergarten Noir,” an elite institution that protects the children of VIPs by employing former criminals as teachers in exchange for reduced sentences.
The story primarily follows Rita, a former assassin known as Convict #999, who works at Kindergarten Noir. Her mission is to protect the children from kidnappers and assassins while also searching for a romantic partner. The series has been praised for its blend of action, comedy, and romance, and has garnered significant recognition, including ranking third in the 2023 Next Manga Award in the web manga category and placing highly in AnimeJapan’s “Most Wanted Anime Adaptation” poll.
As of August 2025, the series has collected 15 tankōbon volumes in Japan. Yen Press is publishing the series in English, with the first volume released in April 2025.
