A new anime adaptation has been officially announced for King’s Proposal (also known as Ōsama no Propose), the popular light novel series penned by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako, the renowned duo behind the Date A Live franchise. The announcement was made during the “Fantasia Bunko Hōsōkyoku Aki no Dai Kanshasai” livestream event on October 25, 2025.
While an anime series has been confirmed, further details regarding the production studio, cast, and a specific release date are yet to be revealed.

King’s Proposal plunges readers into a world where powerful mages safeguard humanity from destructive entities known as “annihilation factors” that emerge every 300 hours. The story centers on Saika Kuozaki, an exceptionally powerful and beautiful mage who serves as the headmistress of a mage academy and is the sole individual capable of neutralizing these threats.
The Unexpected Succession
In a pivotal moment, Saika is mortally wounded. In a desperate act of survival and to ensure the world’s protection, she transfers her formidable powers and even her physical body to an ordinary high school student named Mushiki Kuga, who stumbles upon her. This sudden inheritance thrusts Mushiki into an extraordinary predicament.
A New Identity and Hidden Powers
Now inhabiting Saika’s body and possessing her colossal magical abilities, Mushiki faces the daunting task of mastering these new powers while simultaneously attending an academy for mages under Saika’s identity. He must maintain this elaborate masquerade, concealing his true identity from his classmates and teachers, all while preparing to face the lurking enemies ready to strike at any sign of weakness. His life is further complicated by the unexpected reunion with his younger sister, who seeks his counseling about her affection for her own brother. The King’s Proposal light novel series began its publication under Fujimi Shobo’s Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint in September 2021. As of August 2025, eight volumes of the light novel have been released.
Yen Press has licensed the light novels for English release, with the first volume becoming available on November 22, 2022.
Manga Adaptation
In addition to the light novels, a web manga adaptation of King’s Proposal, illustrated by Nemo Kurio, commenced serialization on Square Enix’s Gangan Online website in February 2023. As of March 2025, the manga has six tankōbon volumes released in Japan.
