About Girlfriend, Girlfriend
Girlfriend, Girlfriend, known in Japan as Kanojo mo Kanojo, is a romantic comedy manga series written and illustrated by Hiroyuki. The series originally ran in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine from March 2020 to May 2023, concluding with 16 tankōbon volumes in Japan. Kodansha USA Publishing began releasing the manga digitally in English in April 2021.
The Harem Rom-Com Premise
The story centers on Naoya Mukai, a high school student who has just started dating his childhood friend, Saki Saki. Despite his vow to be loyal to Saki, Naoya receives a heartfelt confession from another girl, Nagisa Minase. Being “passionately honest” and unable to lie to his heart, Naoya does the “logical” (yet unconventional) thing: he asks Saki for permission to date both girls simultaneously. The manga then follows Naoya’s hilarious and often chaotic attempts to make both Saki and Nagisa happy in this multi-partner relationship. The series is tagged with themes of romance, school life, and comedy.
Anime Adaptations
The Girlfriend, Girlfriend manga has inspired two television anime seasons. The first season aired from July to September 2021, produced by Tezuka Productions. A second season, produced by SynergySP, aired from October to December 2023. Both seasons were streamed by Crunchyroll in various regions worldwide.
Kodansha Print Club’s Expanding Catalog
In addition to Girlfriend, Girlfriend, the Kodansha Print Club program is also releasing other titles in December, including the third volumes of Love, That’s an Understatement, Teppu, and the finale of Blade Girl. Kodansha continues to encourage fans to engage with the program by purchasing titles and submitting suggestions for future print releases through their feedback form.
