The highly anticipated television anime adaptation of Umikaze Minamino’s fantasy light novel series, “Kunon the Sorcerer Can See Through” (Majutsu-shi Kunon wa Mieteiru), is officially slated to premiere in January 2026. The announcement, which initially broke in January 2025, has since been followed by reveals of the main cast, key staff, and a teaser visual, building excitement among fans of the popular series.
The anime will be produced by Platinum Vision, with Hideaki Ōba at the helm as director. Yuki Enatsu is handling the series composition and scripts, while Yōko Satō and Toshimitsu Kobayashi are responsible for character designs. Shunsuke Takizawa (TRYTONELABO) is composing the music.

Saori Hayami as Kunon Gurion
Saori Hayami takes on the role of the titular protagonist, Kunon Gurion. Kunon is a blind sorcerer with extraordinary talent and an unwavering determination to use magic to see. His journey to achieve this unprecedented feat quickly leads him to surpass his mentors and uncover new magical capabilities.
Maaya Uchida as Iko
Accompanying Kunon is his devoted maid, Iko, voiced by Maaya Uchida. Iko is described as energetic and constantly supportive, significantly influencing Kunon’s endeavors.
Akari Kitō as Mirika
Akari Kitō joins the cast as Mirika, the ninth princess and Kunon’s fiancée, adding another intriguing character to the narrative.
A Story of Vision Beyond Sight
“Kunon the Sorcerer Can See Through” originated as a web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in August 2021, quickly gaining a substantial following and topping the general yearly ranking in August 2022. Kadokawa began publishing the light novel volumes with illustrations by Laruha in March 2022, and a manga adaptation by La-na followed in April 2022. Yen Press is releasing both the light novel and manga adaptations in English.
The narrative centers on Kunon Gurion, born blind, who embarks on a unique quest to utilize water magic to gain the ability to see. Despite his disability, Kunon’s genius and relentless study lead him to master advanced magical techniques, allowing him to perceive colors, create useful items, and even conjure a cat from water. His remarkable skills soon catch the attention of the royal court, earning him a mentorship under the land’s most powerful magician. The series explores whether Kunon’s ultimate goal is achievable and the mysteries he uncovers through his magical journey.
Anticipated January 2026 Broadcast
The anime series is scheduled to begin its broadcast in January 2026 on Tokyo MX, BS Asahi, and WOWOW in Japan. For international viewers, Crunchyroll has licensed the series for simulcasting. While details regarding the opening and ending theme artists are often highly anticipated, current official announcements have focused on the core cast and production team, with the music composition handled by Shunsuke Takizawa.
