The official website for the upcoming original anime feature film Labyrinth, known as Meikyu no Shiori in Japan, has released its main trailer, offering a deeper look into the film’s world along with unveiling additional voice cast members, key staff, and the official theme song. The film is set to premiere in Japan on January 1, 2026, with early screenings at the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival later this month.

New Voices Join the “Labyrinth” Cast

The newly released main trailer highlighted several prominent additions to the film’s voice acting ensemble. Veteran voice actors Show Hayami, Maaya Sakamoto, and Tomokazu Sugita have joined the cast. Hayami will voice Keizo Maezawa, Shiori’s father, while Sakamoto will portray Yoriko Maezawa, Shiori’s mother. Sugita takes on the role of Tosaka, Shiori’s homeroom teacher.

These esteemed talents join an already announced cast that includes SUZUKA from the Japanese girl group ATARASHII GAKKO! in her dual role as the protagonist Shiori Maezawa and her digital counterpart, SHIORI@REVOLUTION. Additionally, Takuto Teranishi of the idol group timelesz was previously confirmed to voice Suguru Kagami, a young entrepreneur. Other cast members include Taizo Harada as Komori, Aoi Ito as Kirara Kurashina, and Jun Saito as Kento Yamada.

Creative Team Behind the “Smartphone Labyrinth”

The film is directed by the acclaimed Shoji Kawamori, known for his work on the Macross and Aquarion franchises. Kawamori has indicated that the film draws inspiration from the idea of smartphones as “other selves” that accumulate vast amounts of personal information, aiming to blend song and horror for a unique pop entertainment experience.

Risa Ebata, celebrated for her character designs in Macross Frontier, is responsible for the character designs, while Taichi Hashimoto, who contributed to the composition of revisions, pens the script. Anime production is being handled by SANJIGEN, recognized for their work on BanG Dream!

ATARASHII GAKKO! Performs Theme Song “Sailor, Sail On”

The main trailer also offered the first listen of the film’s theme song, titled “Sailor, Sail On,” performed by the Japanese girl group ATARASHII GAKKO! Group member SUZUKA, who is also the protagonist’s voice actress, plays a significant role in the film’s sonic identity.

Plot and Release Information

Labyrinth (Meikyu no Shiori) tells the story of Shiori Maezawa, an ordinary high school girl who finds her reality altered after her smartphone breaks. She wakes up in a deserted, alternate-world Yokohama, where her digital self, “SHIORI,” has taken her place in the real world and risen to stardom. Trapped in the smartphone world, Shiori must navigate a surreal cyber labyrinth with the help of a mysterious rabbit-man named Komori to return to her own reality.

The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in Japan on January 1, 2026. Before its general release, Labyrinth will have its Asian premiere at the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival, with screenings slated for October 28 and 30.
